AWS GCNA (Global Connectivity and Network Availability) is the backbone that connects the global AWS network. It is dedicated to controlling the internet traffic that allows users to access their information and applications regardless of where they are in the world. GCNA is also responsible for building and designing a complex backbone network that allows internet traffic to flow efficiently between Data Centers and customers. Key job responsibilities
You’ll drive programs deploying Amazon networking infrastructure to meet the ever-growing customer demand.
• Manage competing cross-organizational projects/programs on a global scale.
• You’ll interact cross-team Deployment Managers, cross-team Technical Program Managers, Engineers, and Data Center Technicians and senior management.
• You’ll participate in Network Design engineering reviews.
• You will run meetings, create and maintain timelines, and keep large, diverse groups informed of progress and obstacles.
• You’ll work with engineers to develop detailed and creative solutions to complex problems, while keeping a watchful-eye on timelines and costs.
• You’ll ensure consistency in deployed configurations and track exceptions for follow up.
• You’ll drive simplification efforts in engineering and project/program management, and architectures to unblock innovation.
A day in the life
In this role, you will actively drive a commercial and technical vendor network strategy within the Americas, working with suppliers & technology partners, as well as the Amazon service teams, to meet customer’s demands. By applying a unique blend of industry and technology experience, you will work closely with both outside partners and internal teams to find creative, cost effective, and often unusual, solutions to meet Amazon's ongoing growth and expansion needs worldwide.
About the team
This opportunity sits within our Backbone Network Development organization where the team is responsible for planning, developing and acquiring the network that drive Amazon’s internal infrastructure and connect Amazon to the rest of the world. The Backbone Network Developer will be a subject matter expert in the telecommunications marketplace, experience managing vendors, physical network infrastructure, optical technologies and backbone network engineering. Basic Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Candidates should have a minimum of 5-years telecommunications industry experience in procurement and negotiations of dark fiber and wavelengths..
2+ years experience working in a network planning or implementation role at an ISP, telecoms operator, or CDN.
2+ years of experience building complex financial models from scratch.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working at a large network operator, OTT or Internet Service Provider.
Quick and clear network strategy recognition in order to provide optimal results for the company.
Experience interacting with senior executives and other management within a company and working across commercial, technical, domestic, and international arms of an organization.
Ability to anticipate customer requirements and build strategic plans.
Demonstrated understanding of global fiber and IP networks.
Experience interacting with senior executives and other management within your own company and externally; and working across commercial, technical, domestic, and international arms of an organization.
In-depth knowledge of and experience with conduit construction and fiber placement in outside and inside plant environments.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $73,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $177,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
