Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Sports Information and Promotions, theAthletics Communications Assistant will support the overall mission andvision of the University of Chicago and the Athletics and RecreationDepartment by serving two main roles. The first will be to support theexecution of departmental communications initiatives, includingassisting in the development and maintenance of an effective andengaging strategy and presence with web and social media. The secondwill be to provide support with statistical coverage and game managementresponsibilities for athletic communications. This position will requirethe ability to handle a dynamic work schedule that includes evenings,weekends, and holidays. This is a full-time 12-month position withbenefits.
Responsibilities
Performs sports information responsibilities as assigned and providein-game statistical operations, oversee live stats and live videostreaming, record/report statistical information, write game recaps,oversee table crew, and other game day operations. Writes pre andpost season stories for designated teams. Prepares and submitsnominations for student-athletes for conference, regional, andnational recognition awards. Promotes recipients on website andsocial media pages.In collaboration with the Deputy AD for Internal Operations and theDirector of Sports Information and Promotions, develops the vision,strategy, and branding for sports programs by managing social mediaaccounts, creating content, collaborate with and manage creativemedia students to create and design artwork, graphics, and contentfor a variety of platforms. Maintain ongoing understanding ofindustry trends, innovative platforms, and emerging media in arapidly changing profession.Produces original video content, game day graphics, publications(electronic newsletters, media guides, brochures) for the website,social medial pages, and video board. Assist with the oversight ofdigital platforms presentation and maintenance and with specializedcontent for coaches and department staff to assist in recruitmentand retention of students.Assists with staffing photographers and creative mediastudents/staff for contests. Approves photography selection andediting. Organizes and coordinate media days for varsity sportteams.Designs, writes, and edits various communications materials, such asstudent-athlete bios, press releases, and feature stories for thedepartment\'s website conveying the voice of the coach,student-athletes, program, and department.Incorporates key messaging points into daily content through aproactive approach and digital-forward growth mindset, consistentwith the Athletics Department\'s 4 Pillars (Excellence, Education,Integrity, All-in).Accomplishes assigned duties through two or more of the following:written communications; visual/graphic media, which may include Website development and maintenance; speeches and personal contact. Theincumbent is still acquiring higher-level knowledge and skills.Plans, develops and disseminates information designed to keep thepublic informed of the organization\'s programs, accomplishments, orpoint of view, with moderate levels of guidance and direction.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications
