Job Summary
Provide strategic direction and leadership in building programs withinNCSA\'s Engagement Directorate to advance the Center\'s mission ofleading and supporting partnerships around campus, the nation, and theworld by leveraging and further developing our expertise, experience,and innovation in digitally-enabled scholarship to solve the mostscientifically and societally important and challenging problems.
Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Direction, Leadership, and Management (50%)
Provide strategic direction and leadership for NCSA\'s EngagementDirectorate, which includes management of the Research and Educationdivision, development teams scientific and technical project andprogram offices focused on various research domains, and variousfaculty and student programs.
Develop strategic goals for NCSA\'s Engagement Directorate thatposition NCSA and the campus for growth in the areas of research andeducation, industry partnerships, research translation, technologyinnovation, and community engagement.
Prepare and manage an operational budget for the EngagementDirectorate and advise the Deputy Director on the allocation ofresources needed to meet the objectives of the directorate andassociated units.
Serve as a member of the Center\'s Executive Council (EC) whichadvises the Deputy Director and Director on the development andrevision of policies and procedures necessary to maintain andimprove daily operations within the Directorate and the Center.
Participate and contribute to discussions with the EC and theDirector on strategic issues to best position the Center foraccomplishing its mission. Coordinate with the Deputy Director,Associate Directors and team leaders to coordinate and leveragestaff and expertise which may be useful between multiple NCSAdirectorates, divisions, and groups, encouraging and supportingCenter-wide collaboration and teamwork
As appropriate, engage in proposal development activities includingpotentially as a PI or major contributor, and in providing feedbackand guidance for those who are leading proposal development efforts.
Direct and support staff in the proper implementation of Universitypolicy and procedures.
Engagement and Outreach (50%)
In collaboration with the Director, Deputy Director, ChiefScientist, and others at the Center, lead the Center\'s efforts, tobuild and maintain relationships with key stakeholders includingUniversity and OVCRI leadership, NCSA\'s External Advisory Board(coordinated by the Chief Scientist), System and Universitygovernance committees, constituents, partners, etc.
Track research and development activities in computational scienceexternal to the University and build relationships as needed for thepotential benefit to NCSA goals and programs.
Monitor progress and ensure the success of existing projects andpartnerships. Develop new partnerships as needed to achieve NCSA\'sstrategic goals. Coordinate with (and between) all NCSA technical,research, and education teams and their partners, providing acontinuous flow of information, enabling effective communication andcollaboration between the groups.
Prepare and present professional papers regarding NCSA and anyresearch/publications arising from their own research at seminars,workshops and conventions.
Meet with University Deans, Directors and Department Heads to reviewcurrent and proposed research projects for the purpose of explori gnew, or expanding existing, collaborative relationships.
The position may also carry with it leadership of other specificnational and campus functions. These leadership positions may evolvein time.
Minimum Qualifications
BS in an area of study requiring the application of advanced digitalresources and services.10 years\' experience at a senior manageriallevel in a scientific or technical organization or company. At least 10years\' experience (can be inclusive of the above experience) inactivities associated with high performance computing systems.Experience overseeing budgets, personnel, and policy development.Experience interacting with senior staff at a university or otherscholarly research institution. Successful record of acquiring fundsfrom external sources for research and translational activities.
Preferred Qualifications
Master\'s degree or Ph.D. in an area of study requiring the applicationof advanced digital resources and services preferred. Experience with avariety of external funding agencies. Experience working in a researchenvironment. Experience in an academic environment as an administratoror faculty member. Experience with developing innovative tools relevantto HPC or other data science domains.

Ability to work as a team member in research and administration.Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proven ability tomanage a diverse group of staff and researchers. Ability to manage ateam of professionals for research and application using advance
