Job Description:
The Associate Dean of Students will chair and provide leadership for a campus/community interdisciplinary behavioral intervention team, CARE Team, and support students in crisis. Has strategic leadership of the Basic Needs programs including emergency microgrants and the campus food pantry. In this role the Associate Dean of Students has direct supervision and oversight of 2.0 FTE .
Major responsibilities of this position:
Develop and oversee the overall delivery of programs and services of the CARE Team:Lead weekly CARE Team meetings, prepare annual reports on behavioral intervention trends, and supervise the Assistant Dean in the case management of the CARE Team process
Consult with faculty, staff, students, law enforcement, legal counsel and other external constituents regarding students of concern, including from the regional campuses and with our OHIO Online colleagues
Participate on university-wide threat assessment team lead by OUPD
Provide intervention and case management with students and coordinate appropriate support to students in crisis
Respond to student crisis and emergency calls including those from students, faculty, staff, and parents/families with concerns related to students in crisis and follow-up with appropriate response, including serving on the on-call crisis duty rotation for the Athens campus
Provide training to members of the CARE Team and key campus partners, e.g. Housing and Residence Life staff
Provides supervision, management, training, and mentorship of staff including: Basic Needs Coordinator and Assistant Dean of Students. Guides and assists with strategic direction for the Basic Needs program. Works closely with Advancement on communication and monetary asks with donors for the food pantry and emergency microgrant program.
This position serves as second in command within the Office of the Dean of Students.
Functions as the liaison with campus stakeholders to respond in cases of emergency and/or crisis.
Represents the Dean of Students on committees and is responsible for responding on their behalf when needed
Bridging relationships with academic partners to assist students and parents when needed.
Everyone in the Division of Student Affairs is charged with ensuring a framework of inclusive excellence that is embedded into our day to day work. Specifically, this staff member should advance understanding across the university and division of students struggling with mental health and overall well-being and the impact of discrimination and marginalization on those students. The staff member will also represent the division and the university by speaking at university wide events and serving on university-wide committees.Must be able to work well as part of a team and confidently provide guidance on best practices with dealing with students in crisis. Additionally, the Associate Dean of Students needs to be able to respond to campus within 30 minutes when serving on-call.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling or Social Work, College Student Personnel or related field
At least 8 years relevant work experience
6 years supervisory or managerial experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Higher Ed or Social WorkPlanning Unit: Vice President for Student Affairs
