Posting Summary
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking an Assistant Registrar (AR) for the Office of the Registrar -Newark. Reporting directly to the Newark Registrar, this position will be responsible for leading and supervising, shared responsibility with the senior registrar team, the day-to-day oversight of 5 Registrar staff members (4 SCC and 1 AA) to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of all work processed by the Office of the Registrar-Newark and support the staff in responding to inquiries and requests for information from students, faculty, staff, and Deans.This position is responsible for and not limited to the following.
  • Provides leadership to the front-line staff in addressing and interpreting complex issues and information, making evaluative determinations and recommendations regarding services and procedures to students, faculty, staff, and Deans using current policy/procedures in a timely manner and ensures that appropriate items are escalated to the Office of the Registrar senior team;
  • Works with senior team to review complex issues outside of policy/procedures and provide viable solutions prior to escalating to the Registrar;
  • Oversees 4 SSCs and 1 AA to supervise and coordinate all operations and functions related to ensuring accuracy and expediency of course registration, student records maintenance and auditing, transcript production, enrollment verification, degree verifications, training, and all written and web communications within the Registrar's Office and information and training disseminated to Campus Partners and Campus community;
  • Leads and coordinates, with senior registrar team, the training of staff and updating policies and procedures within the Office of the Registrar to ensure compliance; working with staff to streamline and update processes to ensure a more responsive and productive office environment;
  • Leads and directs the staff in responding to inquiries and requests for information from students, faculty, staff and Deans, coordinates with assigned SSC/AA on all operations and functions related to training and student registration, transcript and verification transactions, maintaining and updating perceptive content, salesforces and FERPA records;
  • Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development opportunities to ensure we are consistently striving to develop as the Office of the Registrar.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Minimum Education and Experience
* Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
* Requires a minimum of (5) years relevant experience in a program coordination or administrative function that includes coordination of work and management of people; good communication skills; and computer literacy in a higher education setting.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Demonstrated strong organizational skills, communications skills, and interpersonal skills are essential
* Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Tableau, Salesforce and knowledge of or training on a learning management system
* Ability to analyze and interpret data. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Banner, Report creation in Tableau, TSO and Excel
Equipment Utilized
  • Must have experience with the Student Records Database (IMS), Banner and knowledge of Rutgers systems.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Be able to carry 10 lbs.
