RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilitiesinclude teaching economics courses to support general educationrequirements and programs in Applied Social Science (including aneconomics concentration) and Business and Administration, as well asminors in economics and investments and finance. Responsibilities alsoinclude maintenance of a reasonable research agenda commensurate withthe teaching load, and service necessary to maintain the functioning andexcellence of the university. Faculty also provide student academicadvisement and conduct assessment of student learning, includingcontributing to academic program assessment, accreditation, andcontinuous improvement processes, in collaboration with faculty andstaff across campus. In addition to academic year instructionalresponsibilities, there is the possibility of additional teachingopportunities during the summer and winter. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION As aneconomist you will be a member of the social science department at theUniversity of Wisconsin-Stout. The department is interdisciplinary(including history, sociology, anthropology, political science, andgeography) and houses the Applied Social Science program (major), amulti-disciplinary, hands-on degree that prepares students for careersin a variety of industries as well as government and non-profits. Thedepartment has research and teaching strengths in public policy, socialscience research methods, and a range of applied topics (such asenvironmental issues, sustainable agriculture, inequality, health,etc.). Alongside teaching economics and quantitative research methods,there are numerous opportunities to mentor student research and to workon research tied to local issues. In addition to the programs housed inthe department, faculty contribute to the Stout Core, our generaleducation program, as well as to related programs in business, supplychain management, and related areas including a vibrant investments andfinance minor.
