The Office of Financial Aid is seeking an Assistant Director, Outreach to advise current and prospective students (and their families), analyze and assess eligibility for aid, and serve as a presenter in ongoing outreach programs. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with critical-thinking, analytical and outstanding customer-service skills. The ability to multi-task and balance the department, and student advisement responsibilities is critical to the success of this position. This role will involve ongoing travel to local and out-of-area high schools, including community colleges, during evening hours. Participation in weekend recruitment and conversion events will also be periodically required. The Assistant Director will also perform need assessments for students requesting financial aid. Additionally, the role will provide comprehensive advisement and assistance in matters pertaining to financial aid packaging and financial literacy. This role conducts need-analysis to determine student packaging options based on individual case circumstances, reviews student applications for consistency and completeness, verifies accuracy of student and family reported information, and certifies applications. While this position is based on the USC University Park campus, travel to the Health Sciences Campus is frequently required for meetings, programs/events and to staff financial aid office hours. This individual has several varied responsibilities, which include:
Assisting the need analysis unit with the review of over 10,000 applications for financial aid annually
Participating in the creation of financial aid packages for over 22,000 students annually
Processing nearly 25,000 student loans for both graduate and undergraduate students
Meeting with students and families at the UPC and HSC campuses, off-campus and out-of-area programs – including weekends and evenings
Approximately 90 percent of the students at the USC Health Sciences Campus are graduate students
Advisement by phone to provide counseling and general information concerning financial aid
The selected candidate will be expected to maintain accurate and thorough file documentation. Interested candidates must demonstrate the ability to counsel student applicants, and parents on matters concerning financial aid packages. The ability to evaluate student problems, and take appropriate action is required. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to integrate financial counseling with student housing circumstances, academic goals, extracurricular plans and career objectives. The role also advises students regarding financial planning, budgeting and debt management. This position exercises independent judgment within the scope of policy and procedure, provides interpretation of financial aid policies and assists in problem-solving.
This position accompanies admission recruiters to local schools as requested, and conducts individual, and group information sessions – strong interpersonal and customer service skills are required. Maintains currency on financial aid packages, state and federal regulations related to financial aid, and university policies and procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. This position reports to the Associate Director of Outreach. This position is eligible for overtime, with an 8:30 am to 5:00 pm work schedule.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable with public speaking, having heavy interaction with the public and can communicate easily in group settings of any size.

The hourly rate range for this position is $ 26.05 - $27.15 .
