  JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  Student Orientation and Transition Programs (SOTP) at Penn State (https://psu.edu) is seeking a dynamic, student-centered professional for the position of Assistant Director for New Student Orientation. This position is located at the University Park campus. SOTP is a partnership between Student Affairs and Undergraduate Education charged with the delivery of university- and campus-wide orientation and transition programs.

  Primary responsibility of the assistant director includes:

  The recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and management of our undergraduate Orientation Team

  Development, implementation, and logistical support for student-led NSO sessions and late-night NSO programming

  Serving in the NSO Director Rotation to be the person responsible for responding to, and resolving, student and parent/family members issues and concerns as they arise during NSO programming

  Implementing office-wide evaluation and assessment activities

  Providing leadership for SOTP’s comprehensive social media accounts/activity

  Preparing content for presentations, publications and department website

  Candidates will have strong knowledge of orientation and transition programs, student development theory, best practices in student staff training, and event management. The successful candidate must be detail oriented, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, allowing them to work collaboratively with internal and external partners to enhance the mission of Student Orientation and Transition Programs. The ability to work independently while recognizing the importance of teamwork in achieving goals is a critical element of this position. This position requires evening and weekend work, especially in the summer months.

  Education and experience:

  This position typically requires a Master’s degree plus three years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in higher education or student development is preferred. Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations is also preferred.

  This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
