  Summary

  Assists with the daily operation of city government activities and support services under the general supervision of the City Administrator. Oversees the economic development, communication, and customer relations divisions of the City.

  Essential Job

  Duties

  Direct the City's administration staff and activities, providing leadership and guidance asrequired.Develop and direct short-term and long-term goals, ensuring that they are aligned with the City's direction and cultural approach.Provide technical expertise to thedepartment.Ensure that the service provided to customers and the public is at a professional and high standard, overseeing the work of the team through subordinate management levels.Remove obstacles within and across the organization to achieve work asrequired.Identify areas for process improvement and potential implementation of innovative practices, recommending changes to existing policies and procedures as appropriate.Conduct research and analysis and prepare recommendations regarding proposals for programs, grants, services, budgets, equipment, etc.Responsible for oversight of the Economic Development office and Community Relations division of the City, including effective implementation of customer servicestrategies.Track legislative activity at the state and federallevels.Communicate official plans, policies, and procedures to staff and the generalpublic.Create reports and make presentations to supervisors, boards, commissions, civic groups, and the general public as assigned.Provide assistance to the City Administrator in meeting managementgoals.Investigate and follow up on elected officials' requests for services, complaints, and requests for information.Assist in preparing and monitoring department budgets seeking continuous improvement, and maintaining fiscal responsibility.Monitor and approve expenses within thedepartment.Create a positive learning environment and development opportunities for career advancement by identifying the needs of individual employees and developing skills through training, coaching, mentoring, and counseling.Develop bid specifications; evaluate and write justifications for vendor selections to beawarded.Ancillary Job
