  Best Buddies International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizationdedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that createsopportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment,leadership development, and inclusive living for individuals withintellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

  Best Buddies is the world's largest organization dedicated toending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million peoplewith intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our programsempower the special abilities of people with IDD by helping them formmeaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, liveindependently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy, and communicationskills, and feel valued by society.

  Position Overview: The Area Director is responsible for developing an annualarea plan and implementing the plan through overseeing day-to-day operationsin local office(s), securing funding for programs and specialprojects, overseeing programs to ensure program consistency and success,managing local Advisory Board(s) and associated committees, andsupervising local office staff. This person also assists and directs Programstaff to ensure program consistency and success.

  Job Qualifications-- Qualified applicants must have:

  Concrete experience in fundraisingincluding a record of success in expandinga donor base through cultivation and stewardship, grant writing, eventplanning/implementation, and/or board managementStrong persuasive writing and presentation skills with the ability to exertinfluence, inspire others, and articulate the mission, goals, andactivities of Best Buddies with passion and enthusiasmProficiency with Microsoft Office, and familiarity/comfort with databasemanagement systems (i.e. SalesforceRaisers Edge)At least three years of management/supervisory experience, and strongtalent-building and team-building skillsStrong project management skills - including planning, analysis,decision making, and problem solving skills - and willingness to multitaskStrong initiative, drive for results, and self-assessment skills, andability to lead individuals and teams in setting and achieving challenginggoalMust be highly dependable, lead by example and be willing/able to adaptmanagement style to fit the situation and hold staff accountable for meetingset expectationsMust be comfortable engaging with people with intellectual and developmentaldisabilities (IDD)Must travel, use personal cell phone, and work evenings and weekends asnecessary in order to accomplish job responsibilitiesBachelor's degree or at least 4 years' relevantexperience in addition to above experienceAccess to an automobile with applicable insuranceJob Duties include, but are not limited to:

  Programs

  Oversees and assumes ultimate responsibility for the success of allprogrammatic operations in designated region by working with local programsstaff and HQ Programs TeamOversees the planning and implementation of program events and volunteertraining initiatives area-wide, including Best Buddies Day/Monthand LocalLeadership Training DaysEnsures that program participants and staff are appropriately integratedinto regional fundraising/awareness efforts and collaborates with Programstaff to ensure that grant goals are realistic and in the best interest oflocal programmatic effortsEnsures recruitment strategies and volunteer appreciation initiatives forBest Buddies program participants are effectively and appropriatelyimplementedAttends local chapter events and activitiesDirectly manages Program staff and assumes additional programmaticresponsibilities as required per state offic staffing structureDevelopment

  Collaborates with State Director to develop and implement comprehensivelocal strategy for securing sustainable funding and works with local staff,Advisory Boards, and volunteers on its implementation.Assumes overall operational management responsibility for all regionalfundraising activities, including, but not limited to, foundation andcorporate giving, individual giving, major gifts, special events,annual giving, and alumni/parent relations.Develops and implements major fundraising events to meet revenuegoals--must utilize local event committees and follow BBI eventcommittee benchmarks/structureResearches grant opportunities, develops proposals to foundations,maintains accurate records and submits reports as required by funders withsupport from BBI Grants DepartmentManages government grants/contracts as directed, including reporting,maintaining relationships with key agency officials and testifying if
