The applicant will be working in hazardous conditions; have responsible work; incumbent will be in control of extinguishing fires, protects life, property, and maintains equipment as an employee of the city of Greenwood. The work involves the study of manuals and attending classes daily on proper procedures to extinguish fires. The applicant will respond to fire alarms and other emergency calls. Makes forced entries and rescues persons or assists in rescue operations as directed during fires or other emergencies. Performs assigned duties in maintaining equipment, buildings, and grounds, administers emergency first aid measures and assist in various minor city duties. The applicant is also responsible for using cutting tools, both manual, gas, and power operated. Ventilates building or aircraft as directed, to remove heat, smoke, or gas. May assist clubs and the city in beautification projects. May be asked to act as a witness in court in possible arson cases. May be asked to give public talks on Fire Prevention.
