About Aircraft Mechanic - Egress

  POSITION SUMMARY

  Coordinates and directs the maintenance effort in the shop as assigned by management.

  Performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft on and off equipment egress systems repair and maintenance tasks, Organizational/Intermediate. Must have extensive knowledge of the aircraft’s egress system for which he is certified. Provides technical assistance, guidance and instruction to employees in the AME Mechanic classification.

  The Aircraft Mechanic – AME will also be experienced and qualified in the rigging of explosive linkages/devices applicable to seats and canopy, will be able to perform flow checks on egress systems, have experience in the replacement, fitting and rigging of aircraft canopy, canopy drive and canopy locking mechanisms. Will be a graduate of a specialty course on the applicable ejection seat. May be required to perform Leadman duties when designated and authorized.

  Must become qualified and certified in explosives handling personnel qualification and certification program in accordance with COMNAVAIRFORINST 8023.3 series.

  Must be customer oriented.

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  Will be familiar with USN/USAF technical publications; will be capable of conducting on-the-job training and maintenance of personnel seat/cockpit safety checkout training records and will be experienced and qualified in the removal and replacement of ejection seats and explosive devices.

  Responsible for all egress system on and off equipment maintenance on Adversary F-5 aircraft.

  Removes, transports, inspects, repairs and reinstalls ejection seats.

  Inspects, repairs and cleans seat harnesses.

  Inventories, stores, removes and replaces seat CAD/PAD explosive items.

  Will also be experienced and qualified in the rigging of explosive linkages/devices applicable to seats and canopy.

  Will be able to perform flow checks on egress systems; will have experience in the fitting and rigging of aircraft canopy, canopy drive and locking mechanisms.

  Will be a graduate of a specialty course on the applicable ejection seat.

  Must be in-depth working knowledge of aircraft safety directives.

  Use schematics, drawings, charts and other applicable publications to troubleshoot, repair, test and modify assigned systems.

  Performs aircraft inventory, acceptance and transfer inspections.

  Must be able to work day shift, night shift or weekend duty and travel as part of a maintenance recovery team or detachment as required.

  Will have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy.

  Be capable of becoming a certified Plane Captain when directed my management.

  Perform other tasks as directed by management.

  Provides technical assistance, guidance and instruction as required.

  Maintains and/or completes required records and applicable maintenance forms.

  Become CDI/CDQAR certified as directed by management to perform collateral duty inspection assignments.

  Performs daily duties normally associated with this specialty.

  Practice good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention and safety at all times.

  Assists in aircraft/equipment movement and flight line foreign object prevention walks.

  Operates SE, flight line vehicles and other support equipment as required.

  Qualified to perform corrosion detection, treatment, prevention and documentation per customer/management instructions/directions on aircraft and associated equipment.

  Annotates maintenance actions in aircraft forms and VIDS/MAF and NALCOMIS/OOMA.

  Will have knowledge of and understand basic supply procedures. Assist with ordering parts, tools, materials and equipment as required.

  Must comply with established General and Industrial Safety Rules and Regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities and job assignment.

  Comply with Company and facility Hazardous Waste Programs.

  Keeps shop area clean and participate in daily hanger cleanups.

  QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

  Aircraft mechanic AME will have two years experience in ejection seat maintenance to include two recent years of repairing egress system experience.

  The Egress Specialist must be a graduate of a military or factory equivalent ejection seat course of instruction.in their specific aircraft maintenance occupational field. Must have experience in corrosion detection, treatment and prevention.

  Personnel shall be qualified according to their field of expertise and the level of maintenance assigned, i.e., “O” or “I” level.

  The mechanic will be capable of cross-training into or assisting other specialties as directed by management. All mechanics must be capable of becoming Plane Captain certified when directed by management IAW a Government approved certification program for each TMS of aircraft.

  Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. NOTE: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.

  Will have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy.

  Must have completed high school or equivalent.

  PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  Physical Demands:

  This classification is usually accomplished in a shop/hanger/outdoor flight line-like environment and as such requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with on equipment/aircraft activities. Typical physical activities include climbing, standing, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, walking and working in tiring uncomfortable positions. May require lifting of objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds. Special vision abilities to perform this job are close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.

  Work Environment:

  The diversity of work conditions may range an environment where there is little on no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject the individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and electrical shock hazards.
