  Position Summary

  The School of Hospitality at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSUDenver) invites applications for temporary, part-time affiliate facultyteaching positions.

  MSU Denver enrolls over 16,000 students, where nearly 60% are firstgeneration and over 55% are students of color. Located in downtown Denver,we are a designated (HSI), an INSIGHT into Diversity Higher EducationExcellence in Diversity () Award winner for 10 consecutive years, andthe only certified institution in Colorado. As the third largest institutionof higher education in Colorado and the only institution with an open accessmission, MSU Denver is a model university for today's college students.The University serves the most diverse undergraduate student population in thestate, as well as the most first-generation students and Deferred Action forChildhood Arrivals students. MSU Denver is particularly interested inapplicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgroundsand a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education forunder-represented and historically minoritized groups.

  Responsibilities

  Teach 3+ credit hours. Subject areas may include, but are not limitedto: Wine Fundamentals, Beer and Spirits, Enology: The Making ofWine, Wines of the Old World, Wines of the New World, Wine and Food Pairing

  Will work and interact with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff

  Will demonstrate ability to effectively infuse technology into coursework

  Will be available for consultation with students

  An affiliate faculty member's duties include but are not limited to:teaching assigned classes in person or online by delivering course content tostudents, preparing course materials and lesson plans, grading studentwork, providing students with robust feedback in a timely manner,addressing student questions consistent with university, college/school,and department policies, and providing online or in person academic supportto students as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment; providinginstruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learningobjectives of the regular course syllabus and, if required, withdepartment course coordination policies; conducting student assessments asprescribed by curriculum; maintaining office hours; and complying withuniversity-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peerobservation

  Required Qualifications

  Completion of a Master's degree in the field in which the faculty member isassigned to teach OR

  aBachelor's degree in a hospitality-related discipline plus professionalexperience that is current at the time of hire, that has been substantial interms of duration and level of responsibility, andthat clearly links to thefield in which the faculty member is expected to teach. Normally, thisexperience is no less than ten consecutive yearswith increasing levels ofresponsibility and significant levels of supervisory experience.

  If the Master's degree is outside the field in which the faculty member isassigned to teach, there is an increased expectation ofsubstantialprofessional work experience in the discipline.

  Preferred Qualifications

  Nationally recognized certificates and licenses relevant to the field in whichthe faculty member is assigned to teach. (e.g., various levels ofSommelier and/or Cicerone, etc.)

  Terms of Employment

  Affiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a percredit hour basis for specific classes, usually on a semester-by-semesterbasis. Affiliate faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under theUniversity's benefit program. All such teaching assignments are dependent onbudget and enrollment.

  Qualified candidates will be expected to teach in person/on campus upon hire.

  Salary for Announcement

  The final salary is based on the number of credit hours assigned at a ratedetermined by university policy.
