This position will be part of the Enterprise Services team, which delivers a full suite of services to state agencies, boards, councils, and commissions, and many central services to local government partners.
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Accounting Technician.
This position plays a crucial role in providing accounting work for Minnesota IT Services Finance Management Division. The primary focus will be on delivering financial technical services related to the Accounts Payable function across various funds and programs. The person in this position performs tasks in accordance with the establishes procedures, handling complex transactions requiring a deep understanding of the Statewide Accounting System - SWIFT to effectively control, analyze, audit and prepare appropriate accounting records and reports and recognize and mitigate errors or problems.
This position is responsible for reviewing invoices, generating records and reports, analyzing expense reports, understanding purchase orders, procurement system and entering invoice data. This position assists in ensuring compliance with Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other applicable financial standards.
This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:
Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.
Minimum Qualifications
This position requires a minimum of one (1) year of accounting transaction experience.
Experience must include the following:
Data entry sufficient to enter text and numbers into spreadsheets, databases, and computer systems and applications.
Ability to use a variety of bookkeeping/accounting software applications.
Effective time management and organizational skills.
Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.
Preferred Qualifications
Work experience in Finance/accounting roles (accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll or general accounting).
Knowledge of accounting methods and procedures.
Familiarity with State’s appropriation, budgetary, and accounting systems.
Understanding of federal government accounting, auditing, and reporting requirements governmental accounting is preferred.
Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
High level of integrity and confidentiality.
