The Accountant I is responsible for the reviewing, recording, analyzing and reporting of financial transactions and budgetary results control in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and policies of The Carnegie.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required. One or more year of experience in general accounting in a nonprofit environment, is preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Attention to detail is essential.Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to communicate with all levels of management. Demonstrated ability in financial analysis important. Knowledge and experience in working with a computerized accounting system required.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is primarily sedentary in nature, no special demands are requiredPRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Review and reconcile general ledger accounts and make necessary adjustments to assure their correctness.Audit journal entries and accounts payable vouchers to determine the correctness and propriety of all transactions.Administer the Purchase card (P-card) program and ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures set forth by The Carnegie.Review employee expense reports for accuracy and appropriateness. Process reimbursements on a timely basis.Reconcile and verify bank deposits and payments. Ensure follow-up action as necessary.Review, interpret, and assemble the various account analyses necessary for the timely preparation of the annual report and tax returns.Prepare special reports as required to meet various deadlines and government filing requirements.Cross-train in other areas of the financial services office to broaden skill-set and enhance the organizational knowledge of the department.Assists the Assistant Controller and financial services department with all other duties as assigned.The following PA Act 153 clearances, or proof of application of clearances, are required beginning employment and as a condition of continued employment: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check Obtaining the required clearances is completed as part of the new hire process.
