The Opportunity
The purpose of the Caribbean Resilient Economies and Sectors Activity is to reduce constraints to climate and disaster finance, and increase investments in climate and disaster resilience across priority sectors. As the Accountant, you will manage and execute the project’s financial procedures, accounting, and payroll under the director of the Finance and Operations Director.
Core Responsibilities
Check the correctness of invoices, receipts, and supporting documents to ensure they are clear, complete, auditable, and following Abt’s rules and regulations.
Prepare payment vouchers; record transactions in accounting software (QuickBooks) on weekly basis; prepare monthly ROV in accordance with Abt Associates' procedures and policies.
Prepare and process monthly payments of salaries, PIT, and SHUI for staff and consultants. Ensure that staff insurance contributions and government taxes are paid on time.
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
Prepare monthly cash requests and keep track of payment deadlines; check petty cash payments and periodically reconciles petty cash balances.
Inform Social Security Office of any change in project personnel, arrival and departure of staff, salary increase; join their required training; update news about social security regulations and policies.
Update VAT and PIT trackers on monthly basis.
Ensure that accounting records are up to date at all times, orderly, well kept, and readily available for reference and audit.
Verify project financial data in the company accounting software to submit to Abt Associates HQ weekly and monthly accounting reports.
Assist the Finance and Administration Director in the implementation of the internal control system and financial procedures manual of the company.
Other duties as assigned.
What We Value
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience in Accounting or Program Financial Management.
Experience in payroll management, petty cash management, financial reporting, and budget tracking.
A strong command of financial and other computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, QuickBooks, Access, etc.
Demonstrated experience with international development and donor-funded programs.
Familiarity with USAID-funded projects will be an advantage.
Demonstrated skills in organizing, tracking, and monitoring resources and establishing priorities.
Strong oral and written communication skills in English are required.
