Job Summary:
Information and Technology Services (ITS) organization at the University of Michigan has a great opportunity for a Software Engineer Senior in the Enterprise Application Services (EAS) Web/Mobile Application Development team. We are looking for a passionate developer to be part of a diverse team and join collaborative efforts with other teams in and out ITS.
The Software Engineer Senior will use up-to-date software development practices to build new web and mobile applications, improve existing applications, enable automation, create integrations between existing systems, and deploy to cloud infrastructure. As part of a growing, high-performance team with expanding responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to work in a very collaborative and dynamic environment to improve the quality of the University's technical service/infrastructure using modern software tools and techniques. This position will report to the Manager of Web/Mobile Application Development in Enterprise Application Services.
This is currently a hybrid position based in Ann Arbor, MI. You will need to occasionally attend meetings on campus and be within a reasonably commutable distance. Details can be worked out with the hiring manager. May also require on-call availability and working during non-business hours.

Responsibilities:
The Software Engineer will use up-to-date development practices to quickly respond to campus needs, to create and improve external and internal applications, and to containerize and deploy robust applications leveraging state of the art cloud/DevOps services. Main responsibilities focus onengineering,service improvementsanddevelopment of self and others.
Implement external and internal applications and integrations using modern software development techniques
Participate in all levels of application and integration design, working with users, designers, communications experts, etc. to develop and deploy successful services
Evaluate existing applications, workflows and processes to identify areas for improvement and work with constituent groups to plan appropriate updates
Provide architecture options that meets customers' needs within their budget
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of four years of experience as a Software Engineer or similar role in an IT support environment, with responsibilities requiring information and workflow analysis, analytical thinking, and ability to work independently
Demonstrated experience in modern web and mobile application development, creating and consuming RESTful APIs
Demonstrated experience with programming in a number of languages, including Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java/Kotlin and shell programming in a UNIX environment
Demonstrated experience with container, CI/CD tools, Git and source code management and solid understanding of cloud infrastructure offerings and DevOps practices
Solid understanding of data structures, database concepts and offerings including MySQL, Postgres, and Oracle DB
Demonstrated experience working with Single sign-on solutions such as Shibboleth and related authentication protocols such as OIDC or SAML
Demonstrated effective creative problem solving and flexibility, resulting in plans and services that leverage the capabilities of existing technology and meet/exceed customer and organizational expectations
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers in a manner that consistently meets the organization's expectations for exemplary customer service
Ability to influence others in the building and maintaining a consensual approach with a wide array of diverse business interests
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with Docker
Experience with Kubernetes or OpenShift
Experience with orchestration tools like Ansible
Experience with data analysis methods and tools
General understanding of networking and communications concepts including SSL/TLS encryption, DNS, SSH, and TCP/UDP protocols
One or more cloud certifications for vendors such as AWS or GCP
