About Shift Supervisor

  A front-line, hands-on supervisory position in a plastic closure manufacturing plant. The plant operates on 3 shifts 7 days a week. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for monitoring the day-to-day safety, quality, maintenance, and efficiency of an hourly work force.

  Primary Responsibilities

  Assume complete responsibility for the shift and its operationUnderstand and positively impact key plant control factors of safety, quality, standard operating procedures, employee relations, training and continuous improvementOrganize shift activity in a manner to remove barriers to safety, quality and efficiencyMonitor, investigate and implement safety, quality, productivity and cost control improvement activitiesMust have effective communication skills that enable the ability to direct/assign work assignments and cultivate a positive work environmentFoster an environment conducive to achieving continuous improvement/lean objectives. Must have the ability to operate in a lean manufacturing environment utilizing 5S and other continuous improvement toolsPerform daily observations and initiate corrective measures to insure that the safety of all plant personnel and visitors is not compromisedUnderstand, monitor and maintain product quality levels.Assist in the maintenance of SQF Quality Systems and problem solving efforts on high impact quality issuesDevelop and mentor employees. Understand, use and train employees on SOP's. Oversee all new employee trainingManage the workplace in a manner that exceeds throughput goals, working closely with all employees and striving for continuous improvementReview production sheets and verify that production floor is set up to handle the requirements of the shiftCoordinate and facilitate efficient color changes and production line clearancesResponsible for the scheduling of all production employees on the shift and coordinating all requests for vacation and other time off.Perform routine inspections, tests and evaluations of finished productInvestigate manufacturing/production issues for root cause analysis. Perform acceptance sampling and/or determine if situation needs a review board or not in making decisionsMonitor the performance of and effectively troubleshoot issues with in-line vision inspection equipmentPerform facility safety audits to insure adherence to all safety standards, including behavior based and hazard auditsEnsures the effective maintenance of the SQF SystemPerform facility quality audits to insure adherence to all quality standards, including GMP's, housekeeping, and record keepingMonitor employee performance and facilitate formal performance evaluationsEnforce all Company policies and proceduresOversee the preventative maintenance schedule and ensure that all PM tasks are completed weeklyPrepare the final production report at the end of the shift and enter all data into the computer. Set up the production floor for next shiftAdditional Responsibilities

  Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve company goals and provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledgePerform all duties in accordance with safety rules and proceduresOther duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications

  Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university; or 2 years of related experience while managing others; or equivalent combination of education and experienceKnowledge and experience with SQF is preferred. Training will be provided as needed.Ability to write information and respond to questions from employees, customers, members of management, peers, and the general public. Ability to effectively present information.Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situation where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record-keeping, routine database activity, spreadsheet, graphics, Microsoft Office products.Must possess interpersonal skills, attention to detail and be able to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.Ability to multi-task and manage projects, delegating tasks/assignments as needed.LIMITATIONS AND DISCLAIMER
