As a Project Design Controls Engineer on the FRE Team, you will lead controls related aspects of design projects in operational data centers that remediate issues, upgrade our existing infrastructure and add new services. You will be the focal controls engineering resource and will provide lifecycle support from feasibility, design through to implementation. You will use your controls expertise to specify, design and manage building automation systems. You will own the design of upgrades and solutions to add data center infrastructure, capacity, improve availability and drive sustainability. You will review design and equipment submitting, interface with internal and external teams, and ensure consistency in service delivery. You will be expected to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
Your role responsibilities:
You will be Subject Matter Expert in controls and automation
Demonstrate awareness of the commercial impact of engineering decisions
Provide design and recommendations despite uncertainty/ambiguity
Familiar with design/construction processes
Manage engineering projects and engineering consultants.
Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Commissioning, Construction and Design)
Manage design and built drawings and documents
Prepare and present progress reports to all relevant stakeholders
Demonstrate strong engineering judgment, detail and data oriented
Engage in a blend of office and field work, with daily interactions spanning various data center teams and responsible for all aspects of the data centers.
Prioritize Supporting data center safety, remediation projects, capacity, and availability, focusing on the actions that are most impactful.

Key job responsibilities
Manages electrical & control diagrams, building automation systems (EPMS/BMS), control circuits, industrial HVAC.
Understanding of control strategies, Sequence of Operation development, testing and deployment
Manage scope of work relative to the site specific and customer needs.
Translate customer intent into appropriate engineering design objectives.
Draft, interpret and review control engineering specifications
Deliver integrated engineering projects through interfacing with other engineering disciplines
Develop ISA sheets for temperature, level, flow, and pressure transmitters along with ISA sheets for control valves, positioners, analytical, and various other types of instrumentation.
Develop drawings for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes. Included in the drawings are the general arrangement, internal layout, schematics and interconnection and wire diagrams.
Develop control panel BOM’s.
Develop logic diagrams in the International Automation format for complex logic devices such as Programmable Logical Controller and Distributed Control Systems.
Prepare cable routing plans and schedules.
Coordinate work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure punctual completion of projects within budget.
Manage service contracts with various vendors.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
Windows Power User skill set, proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
4+ cumulative years of controls experience with industrial or commercial engineering in Mission Critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation, oil / gas facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree or advanced degree in Controls, Industrial Automation or Mechatronic Engineering or closely related field, Controls focused training, Project Management Professional (PMP) with 6+ Experience as a Controls Engineering Specialist. Experience working in data centers or other critical facilities.
Demonstrate understanding of engineering documentation, electrical diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills and manage multiple stakeholder deliverables
Communicate to vendors and make decisions using industry standard knowledge (Controls theory, protocols Modbus / BACnet, mechanical / electrical systems, passive infrastructure) and willing and able to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
