  The A pprenticeship

  An apprenticeship is a paid job where the employee learns and gains valuable, real-life experiences.

  We are looking for 1 apprentice to join our Product Management team located at our Peterborough facility (PE1 5FQ). Our Product Management team is at the heart of our business. They coordinate all aspects of development, introduction, and maintenance of the engine power systems our customers depend on.

  Our apprentices will:

  earn a competitive salary package, starting at c. £23,950 per year,

  receive 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays,

  have access to a contributory share and pension scheme, flexible benefits, flexible working opportunities, family-friendly policies and up to 9% bonus.

  In collaboration with our partnered training provider, University of Lincoln (https://www.lincoln.ac.uk/) , our 3-year degree apprenticeship scheme will enable you to grow and develop your capabilities. Alongside on-the-job training supported by relatable mentors, apprentices will spend at least 20% of their working hours completing university-based learning leading to nationally recognised qualifications through the Level 6 Chartered Manager (https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/chartered-manager-degree-v1-1) apprenticeship standard:

  a Level 6 Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship certificate , and

  aBA (Hons) in Professional Practice in Leadership and Management (https://www.lincoln.ac.uk/lbs/apprenticeships/cmda/professionalpracticeleadershipmanagement/) .

  As part of this apprenticeship apprentices are required to attend university on a day release basis, and therefore will be required to travel.

  Upon completion of the apprenticeship, apprentices can apply for Chartered Manager status .

  The Experience

  During the apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to work with the Product Leaders across our global organisation, leading or participating on strategic projects to support our efforts with meeting the challenges of today and our commitment to a sustainable future. Work will include, but not be limited to:

  Active role in the development of our future product strategy, preparation for Business reviews and gathering translating Voice of the Customer (VoC) into product and technical objectives on our future New Product Introduction (NPI) programmes.

  Development of core skills - data analytics, commercial management, and process improvement techniques / approaches

  Management and reporting of Platform Cost Governance related activities.

  Delivery of pan-facility cost, quality, or development projects.

  Monthly tracking and reporting of Product Management budgets and sales forecasting.

  Opportunity to coach and mentor future early talent across the organisation.

  Entry R equirement

  GCSEs: Maths and English GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above.

  A-Levels: Minimum of 96 points from 3 A-Levels.

  NOTE: Equivalent academic qualifications to the above requirements welcome. You can apply with predicted grades. If you’re successful at the interview stage, the job offer will be conditional on you achieving the required grades before September 2024.

  Recruitment Timeline

  Go Live: January 21, 2024

  Closing Date: March 3, 2024

  Interview Date (in-person) : April 10, 2024

  Engagement Day (in-person): June 6, 2024 (provisional)

  Employment Start Date: September 9, 2024 (provisional)

  The panel cannot make assumptions when shortlisting therefore please demonstrate your skills and experience on your application relevant to the criteria outlined.

  Pending the number of applications, the criteria for the position may be enhanced to facilitate shortlisting.

  NOTE: Only apply for a maximum of two apprenticeship schemes. You may be given the opportunity of being considered for other schemes at a later stage.

  Recruitment Process

  Stage one – Online Application: The first stage of the process is to complete the online application; this must be done before the closing date of the role that you're applying for.  Once we reach the close date, we will begin reviewing all our applications, this may take a little while and we will contact you as soon as possible to let you know if you have been successful in moving forward to the next stage. 

  Stage two – Assessment Centre : The half day assessment centre (i.e. interview) will look at a range of behaviours such as teamwork, decision-making, communication, and problem-solving. Each will consist of a group exercise, an interview, and a presentation. Details will vary depending on the career area/role you are applying for. We aim to make these days fun, inclusive and as relaxed as possible. 

  Stage three – Offer: After the assessment centre, the Caterpillar team will review the feedback and extend offers to our chosen candidates, we aim to do this as quickly as possible.

  We hold an Engagement Day for all new apprentices to provide you with an opportunity to meet fellow new starters across the facility before your employment start date. Apprentices will join the business in September 2024.
