Position Description:
This position is in Austin Energy (AE) Public Involvement & Real Estate Services ( PIRES ). The Planning Officer directs, manages, leads, and supervises daily activities of interdisciplinary teams in support of land use and planning work on behalf of Austin Energy. In addition to work direction and duty assignment for staff, this position is a SPOC overseeing review activities on behalf of AE with other city staff and citizens for numerous expedited processes, special projects, and city initiatives.
Overall Planning Officer duties, functions, and responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Supervision and leadership of assigned full time professional staff, and coordination of planning activities within the specific discipline the role oversees.
Coordination, development and implementation of AE and citywide policies and procedures related to the associated team, coordinating equitable, participatory planning processes and equitable, sustainable, and resilient outcomes.
Develops goals and objectives, revises, and implements standard operating practice, work processes, short-and long-range planning, personnel requirements, as well as policy and procedure for the AE land use review team activities to identify gaps and improve efficiencies.
Presenting to a range of audiences including city boards, commissions, and elected officials related to the topics the Planning Officer oversees.
Coordination with and maintaining on-going partnership with other city departments and responding comprehensively to high level inquiries from leadership and executive staff.
Writes detailed informational reports and code interpretations in response to escalations or requests supporting AE management and executive staff, CC/ CMO , and explains comprehensive technical information to a variety of customers and the general public.

Fair Labor Standards Act:
This position is considered FLSA Exempt. Exempt employees are salaried and, except as provided, are not eligible for overtime compensation.
Pay Range
$37.14 – $47.35

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a deadline-focused environment while balancing multiple projects, changing priorities, and additional responsibilities.
Working knowledge of and the ability to clearly explain city practices, policies, and procedures related to permitting and land development.
Experience reviewing and interpreting technical documents.
Experience working with utility criteria requirements and electric design criteria requirements.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
