Summary
The Lab Manager is a key role responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Constructions Services Department Lab. Your responsibilities would include oversight and managing client relationships, oversight of the lab, and technicians in the department. Physical Demands & Work Environment :
· Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk and hear. Body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing, with or without reasonable accommodation
· Lifting and/or moving up to 35 lbs regularly is expected, on occasion, with or without reasonable accommodation
· The testing process for the various construction materials (i.e., soils, concrete, asphalt, etc.) is repetitive in nature several times per hour
· Testing these samples requires extensive manual lifting and handling; the manual lifting is performed individually, and the weights manually lifted range from a 0-75+ lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation
· Weights in the 0-75-lbs range are lifted frequently (From 33% up to 66% of the task period) with a frequency range 10 – 35 repetitions per hour, with or without reasonable accommodation
· Weights in the range of 35 – 75+ lbs (concrete cylinders and soils) are lifted frequently (From 15% to 30% of the task period) with a range of 5 - 15 repetitions per hour, with or without reasonable accommodation
· Construction materials are manually lifted and carried distances on average ranging from a few feet to 75 feet, but may occasionally exceed 75 ft in walking distance and are unloaded manually at our lab and carried inside for testing, with or without reasonable accommodation
· On average the workdays range from 7 - 12 hours
· Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle, including wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles
· The testing work is performed inside and outside the lab with exposure to dirt, dust, sun, heat, and humidity
· This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud
· This is not a remote position. This role will be based in the selected job posting location.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Interviews and selects employees to fill vacant positions
Review clerical and personnel records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness
Keeps records of personnel transactions such as timesheets, benefits, new hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations; forwards necessary documentation to the Human Resources Department and/or Payroll for recordkeeping purposes
Responds and/or investigates employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs
Maintaining lab workflow & organization
Receiving samples, reviewing & entering test data into FDOT’S online database (mac)
Performing laboratory tests as required for construction materials testing in accordance with USACE, ASTM, AASHTO, and FDOT
Testing of construction materials includes soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, mortar, and asphalt
Responsible for equipment maintenance and upkeep of quality management system
Train laboratory technicians
Establish training & monitor technician’s performance
Approve weekly payroll of lab staff
Perform annual reviews of lab technicians
Regular attendance is required
Follows safety procedures
Other duties may be assigned
Required Qualifications:
Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Proficient with Microsoft Office (word, excel, etc.) & math skills
Certifications required or able to obtain within the first 120 days
ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician,
ACI Aggregate Base Testing Technician
ACI Aggregate Testing Technician – Level 1
ACI Masonry Lab Technician
CTQP Limerock Bearing Ratio Technician
CTQP Asphalt Plant – Level 1 & Level 2
Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients
Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports
Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form
Preferred Qualifications:
A College degree in construction management or engineering preferred
2 - 5+ years as a material testing Lab Technician, Supervisor, or Manager
Preferred at least five years related experience and/or training
Experience with Deltek Vision
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
Experience with Adobe
Experience with SAP Concur
Preferred experience managing personnel in A/E/C firm
