About Director of Machine Learning Engineering - US REMOTE ONLY

About us, but we’ll be brief

We are very proud that FORTUNE named us one of The 100 Best Companies to Work For. In addition, for the last five years we’ve been named in the 100 “World’s Most Innovative Companies” by Forbes Magazine.

The Experian Software Solutions (ESS) team is accelerating Experian’s impact by bringing together data, tech, and data science and build game-changing products and services for our customers. We are looking for a Director of Machine Learning Engineering to lead the development of our AI platform and products that serve the needs of Experian’s clients.

Our team is tackling key questions, like – How can we increase the rigor and scalability of our modeling approach, especially as the industry expands into generative AI (genAI)? How can we tackle important issues in the space today like bias, fairness and explainable AI, and how will we adapt with genAI?

As a growing team, we embrace a start-up mentality while operating in a large matrix organization. We value speed, agility, and impact – and our results and ways of working are transforming the culture of the larger organizations around us.

  Your role

Joining our team in ESS, you'll lead a team of engineers and scientists responsible for developing and operationalizing our machine learning platform. In addition, as our lead, you’ll be responsible for defining and shaping the tech culture and be an active voice in shaping our products and software architecture. This is a unique opportunity to get involved from the ground level as part of a growing, dynamic team.

  You will:

  • Lead a diverse development team to build and maintain a scalable development framework to enable the rapid development, evaluation, and deployment of custom machine learning models, including large language models (LLMs)

  • Oversee the build of some of our most ambitious client-facing applied AI models, including leveraging generative AI, through to production release

  • Design and development of complex frameworks for applying ML / data science techniques to large structured and unstructured data volumes

  • Develop scalable pipelines, tools, and services for building production-ready machine learning models

  • Determine the best implementation approaches for technically complex features to inform our product roadmaps

  • Work closely with our product owners and end-users to pilot our products

  • Hyper-focus on establishing a culture of developing high-quality models and software through rapid data-driven decision making, automation, and streamlined processes. Set design principles, coding standards and development practices for your team to follow, as well as others in the organization working on adjacent applications

  Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelors in computer science, engineering, statistics, or related field.

  • 8+ years of industry experience as a hand-on practitioner of machine learning engineering and/or data science, including 2+ years in leadership roles managing teams

  • Deep experience with current-generation data science algorithms and processes (e.g., xgboost, hyperparameter tuning) minimally including modern language models (e.g. Transformers) with a strong preference for use of generative AI models (e.g., fine-tuning, prompt engineering of GPT APIs, reinforcement learning)

  • Expert knowledge in Python (e.g., pandas, numpy, sklearn, pytorch, langchain), SparkSQL and data science platforms such as AWS Sagemaker or Databricks

  • Track record of building and maintaining large-scale machine learning and/or data engineering systems in production

  • Familiarity with writing asynchronous REST API backends

  • Familiarity with data-oriented workflow orchestration frameworks (e.g., Kubernetes), DevOps tooling, including Jenkins, ArgoCD, and common cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS suite)

  • Comfortable supporting troubleshooting and triage of production issues when needed

  • Strong test writing discipline and confident in standard development tools and processes, e.g., git, Jira, Slack

  • Experience in financial services and/or credit modeling and/or healthcare analytics

All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
