ChampionX is currently looking for a highly motivated Airborne Data Scientistin Boulder, CO. The Airborne Data Scientist will be primarily responsiblefor analyzing flight data from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and mannedaircraft flights with the ultimate objective to locate and quantify methaneand other trace gas emissions. In addition to analyzing data using existingtools, the successful candidate would continually work to improve or replacethose tools. Additional responsibilities will include management of scientificinstrumentation including calibration and maintenance.This position will be ideal for a curious and critical thinker who isinterested in (1) thoughtful interpretation of environmental data,(2) helping to reduce methane emissions around the world, and (3)improving the understanding of methane emissions.

What You Will Do:
Collect, record, and analyze airborne data using established protocols andprocesses; communicate findings to other team members for review and feedback.
Critically evaluate flight data from both UAVs and manned aircraft usingPython, Microsoft Office, GIS software, and other programs as appropriate.
Calculate emission rates of various trace gases in the atmosphere fromairborne data and summarize results in reports to customers.
Identify, propose, and implement improvements in flight data analysisprocedures and products, including automation of data analysis methods toreduce the labor required to analyze flights.
Take an active role in flight planning to achieve science goals while ensuringflight safety.
Assists in manuscript and presentation preparation for publication and/ordelivery at industry and scientific events and conferences.
Undertake project tasks and other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out atmospheric measurement data acquisition from a variety of sensorsand chemical analyzers installed on UAV and aircraft to meet projectrequirements. This may involve taking the UAV to field sites throughout NorthAmerica to collect data, and/or providing direction to other drone pilots.
Demonstrate time-critical and collaborative responses to problem solving,especially when science equipment, UAV, or aircraft are deployed on fieldprojects.
Perform moderate-to-advanced level programming in Python.
Represent ChampionX with professionalism and a positive attitude. Occasionalinteractions with customers required.
Design and implement a maintenance and calibration program for scientificinstrumentation in consultation with team members.
Minimum Qualifications:
An advanced degree in the physical sciences (chemistry, physics,atmospheric science or a related field), or bachelor's degree in abovedisciplines with relevant experience.
Expertise in Microsoft software suite and programming languages (preferablyPython).
Ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills to real data.
