WKAR Public Media - Project Manager
Position Summary
WKAR Public Media seeks a limited-term project manager with demonstrated experience working with k-12 educators or within the primary and secondary education community. The project manager will oversee the implementation of a technology-based program designed to close the digital divide for students in a local school district by providing an alternative means of access to educational materials distributed through learning management systems like Google Classroom. The position involves organizing, setting agendas and running meetings with key project partners including information technology staff at WKAR and within a local school district. The project manger will be responsible for engaging and supporting teachers and parents participating in the program, and documenting the processes, progress, and results of the intervention based on a structured timeline. This position will report to the WKAR General Manager and work in close coordination with the WKAR Senior Director for Content and Education and the WKAR Director of Education. The project manager will be the go-to person for all aspects of the project’s organization and timeline.
This is a one-year limited-term position with the possibility of extension based on additional funding. This position has opportunity for a hybrid working schedule with a minimum of two days per week in-office. Remote work agreements are continuously reviewed based on the needs of the organization. This position does not provide relocation funding for out-of-state applicants.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
In collaboration with leaders from WKAR and a local school district, develop an approach to the project that meets the needs of the school district and students.
Identify, gather, and lead a team consisting of local (WKAR/local school district) and remote stakeholders responsible for executing various elements of the project.
Establish the task lists, timelines, and a meeting tempo necessary for flawless execution of the project.
Outline and draft project progress briefs and provide regular updates to the WKAR General Manager, a local school district superintendent, and funding officials.
Oversee third-party process for measuring project performance results (data collection and analysis) and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
Encourage sustained participation in the program through consistent outreach and engagement with teachers and families.
Coordinate with the community partners identified to participate in future phases of the program.
Familiarizing yourself with emerging technologies.

The project, titled “Strengthening Equitable K-12 Access to Education to the Lansing Area Via Free Over the Air Service,” leverages the use of the ATSC 3.0 broadcast standard to deliver educational content to students who are least likely to have broadband access.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration, Management or field related to the employing unit; three to five years of related and progressively more expansive work experience in project management, business analysis, facilitating/training with a focus on business management; workflow process analysis and implementation of strategic initiatives or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Skills:
Three to five years project management experience or demonstrated experience managing large, complex programs involving various stakeholders across multiple organizations.Desired Qualifications
