About Website Content Specialist

  The digital strategy team in University Communications at Johns Hopkins University is seeking a qualified Website Content Specialist responsible for assisting in the creation, maintenance, and enhancement of websites in the JHU.edu domain, including the award-winning flagship website for the university community (www.jhu.edu), the Johns Hopkins University news center (The Hub), websites supporting university administration, and websites in support of strategic marketing campaigns and university wide communications initiatives.

  Reporting to the Director of Digital Strategy, the ideal candidate is someone who demonstrates a commitment to producing high-quality work adhering to project deadlines. This person must be proactive, detail-oriented, and organized. The necessary skills for this position include a focus on web content presentation and organization, understanding best practices in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and user experience, and producing content to comply with accessibility guidelines.

  This position will have an integral role within University Communications, partnering closely with staff responsible for web design and development, copywriting, and analytics to ensure that website content is current, can reach the intended audience, provide consistent user experience across a multitude of web destinations, and present all information (copy, visuals) in a clear and accessible manner.

  Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  Proactively review websites to ensure content is accurate and fresh, and that presentation and organization maintain optimal user experience, using WordPress and Drupal as the primary content management systems (CMS).

  Build and organize new web pages in support of university administration, marketing, and communications projects.

  Assist in the creation and maintenance of content on the Hub.

  Contribute to the creation of email newsletters and/or email messages to share news and information with the university community and other key audiences.

  Obtain all content requirements and assets from project partners and stakeholders.

  Proactively fix information problem areas including broken links, misspellings, and outdated information using insight gained through quality assurance reports in Siteimprove.

  Produce updates to websites for high-priority requests from strategic partners.

  Review analysis of our websites from tools that measure SEO effectiveness and accessibility compliance to make recommendations and changes as needed.

  Maintain Google Programmable Search Engines with new and updated websites.

  Provide guidance about content presentation to website managers utilizing the Johns Hopkins Universal WordPress Theme.

  Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  Demonstrable experience using content management systems (WordPress and/or Drupal experience strongly preferred).

  Proficiency in SEO and WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards.

  Experience using Google Analytics and Google Search Console.

  Experience working with Siteimprove or similar quality assurance platform.

  Strong comprehension of HTML semantics and troubleshooting HTML within CMS platforms.

  Experience with photo editing tools such as Adobe Photoshop.

  Keen eye for digital content presentation and website design.

  Comprehension of best practices in content strategy and user experience (UX) design.

  Strong interpersonal communications skills with individuals of all levels in an organization.

  Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, organize workflow, set priorities, and consistently meet deadlines.

  Knowledge of emerging web technologies, especially those that relate to digital publication, analytics, and marketing.

  Experience working within brand standards.

  Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Computer Science or other related field.

  Two years related experience.

  Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

  Preferred Qualifications

  Degree preferably in a field related to digital communications, journalism, or marketing.

  Experience working with a variety of stakeholders on the execution and publication of concurrent projects.

  JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

  The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
