What You Will Do
We are looking for a Production Design Intern who is interested in working within the department that turns concepts for immersive Disney environments into reality by collaborating with project teams and partners through designing, coordinating, and communicating the details which maintain the creative intent of a show for bidding, construction, production, and installation. The intern plays an integral part of the design process, as they will create documents based on art from the Creative Concept team and/or Sr. Production Designers.
The intern will be responsible to generate code compliant, scaled, design intent drawings that will be used in the vendor bid process. They will integrate needs of our various park partners into the design ensuring the show element meets the creative intent. The intern will work under a senior designer to ensure that the content and integrity of the design concept is maintained throughout the design, production, and installation process. Support development, coordination, and communication of production design concepts to the project team.
Confirm design interfacewithCreative, Architecture, Engineering, Design and Production disciplines, and variousparkpartners.
Developskills to work in teamenvironment.
Develop design intent documents under Production Design Lead.
Confirm scope details in preparation for reviews of show design documents.
Assist production designers and model shop artists in coordinating models with drawings.
Research applicable materials and construction techniques.
Support mock-ups, staging efforts, and presentations including set-up and strike.
Work on a team to builddesignintentpackages and contract scope documents, within companystandards and guidelines.
Participate in vendor shop fabrication review sessions and provide supervision/coordination of show set installations.
Build models in 3D software programs.
Work is first shift but may require second and third shift periodically.
Required Qualifications & Skills
2D and 3D computer aided design on avarietyof softwares.
Some experience in, i.e. theater design, architectural design, interior design, exhibit design,industrialdesign, product design or themeparkdesign.
Work efficiently in Rhino/SketchUp/Adobe Creative Suite.
Ability to read drawing packages, construction drawings and interpret contract documents with a solidknowledge of Excel and MS Word.
Ability to build contract documents across avarietyof theming styles, using hand drawings, 3D programs (Rhino, SketchUp). Interoperability between many other programs would be helpful.
Ability to reflect basic construction and structural details/principles in designintentpackages.
Eagerness to learn new workflows and ability to critically problem solve interoperability and coordination issues between teams.
Hands-on experience with fabrication techniques is a plus. These may include some of the following: miniature model making skills, carpentry, scenic painting, sculpting, molding, fiberglass layup, welding, etc.
Abilitytoworkwell in anintegrated design team with multiple disciplines!
Valid Driver’s License Required.
Education
Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher, or graduated within the past 6 months from anaccreditedcollege/university, earning a degree in Theatre Design, Scenic Design, Production Design, Architecture, Interior Design,IndustrialDesign or Product Design.Eligibility Requirements & Program Information
Must be enrolled in anaccreditedcollege/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
Must possess unrestricted work authorization

The approximate dates of this internship are May/June 2024 through January 2025.
