GREENFIELD Water Distribution Laborer Performs routine and semi-skilledmanual work in the construction, operation and maintenance of waterdistribution system; manual labor, construction, and maintenanceactivities; all other related work as required. Education andExperience: Educational level sufficient to understand and followspecific verbal or written instructions with math ability, usuallyaccomplished by achieving High School or GED diploma; and, to providewritten equipment and other requisite reports. Must have sufficientexperience (three to five years) of relevant experience resulting inability to independently perform standard duties of the position; or anycombination of education and experience resulting in ability fullyperform the position. Knowledge, Ability, Skill, Attitude: Knowledge ofmethods, equipment and tools used in laying and repair of water lines,services and associated appenditures. Must have knowledge and ability tooperate assigned vehicles in a safe and approved manner and theperformance of duties in their operation; knowledge and ability in thework safety procedures and practices in water system maintenance andrepair. Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory relationshipswith supervisors, coworkers, and the general public; to follow oral andwritten instructions. Aptitude for and ability to safely operate toolsand equipment utilized by the department. Ability to read and understandsimple blueprints. Must be punctual and perform all aspects of jobresponsibilities with honesty and integrity. Ability to performstrenuous duties. Ability to effectively and completely perform dutieswith limited supervision, to work alone or with a crew; to read andinterpret written instructions and documents; to work effectively withfrequent interruptions. Special Requirements: Must possess validMassachusetts Class B Operator\'s License or equivelint from reciprocalState (CDL) with Air Brake Certification; applicable hoisters license(s)for position; any other licenses/endorsements as required by State orFederal law; and Grade 2D water distribution license; must be willing towork a variety of work schedules to include overtime in water systememergencies and is subject to call-out during non-working hours. Mustsuccessfully pass CORI/ SORI checks; must have an acceptable drivingrecord and be insurable under city\'s policy; must pass pre-employmentphysical and drug screen pursuant to the DOT Regulations. EssentialFunctions: Manual work in the construction, operation, and maintenanceof water mains, water services, water gates, fire hydrants, watermeters, valves and all related connections and fittings to ensureconformity to standard delivery and service requirements and regulatorystandards; including cuts, taps, and threads of water pipe and making ofcopper, plastic or other joint connections; opens and closes main valves(manually or with valve operating equipment) for water main extensionsor repairs; locates valves and water meters using quarter section mapsor electronic detectors; raises, lowers or relocates water mains, watermeters, valves, and fire hydrants to allow clearance for other utilitiesor improvements; sets meter boxes and water meters and records meterreadings and other required meter identification information. Assists inthe performance of hydrant flow tests, interior plumbing work, thawingof frozen services, house interior leak detection, exterior street leakdetection, water service and main taps, be safely able to operate gateand curb stops.
