About VITA Site Coordinator (Temporary)

  Hourly Rate $25 

  Full Time: 40 hours per week

  Temporary 4-month position starting January 2024

  DEFINITION

  Under supervision, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site coordinator will be responsible for the coordination and supervision of all VITA tax sites. Assists with and/or organizes community and participant outreach as needed for the program.

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class.

  Complete basic and advanced tax law training and certification, including the completion of Site Coordinator training and certify.  

  Recruit, train, and supervise VITA volunteers.   

  Coordinate with the Program Manager on all aspects of site management: assist with volunteer scheduling for tax sites, ensure adequate tax preparation and quality review coverage, and monitor site intake and interview processes.   

  Ensure Volunteer Standards of Conduct are followed by volunteers; ensure Quality Site Requirements are followed by volunteers and c onduct quality review on returns prepared, resolving rejections in a timely manner.  

  Provide technical assistance to volunteers and answer questions as needed.   

  Provide volunteers with Volunteer Tax Alerts and Quality Site Requirement Alerts.  

  Follow up with taxpayers when necessary to complete a return or in the event of an issue processing the return.  

  Inform taxpayers of other services provided at MAAC to help them achieve financial stability.   

  Guarantee site is equipped with adequate supplies and equipment; sanitize surfaces and put away supplies and equipment at the end of the day.   

  Assist with VITA outreach as needed.  

  Performs other duties as assigned.  

  QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  Knowledge of:

  Community services; prior VITA experience preferred.   

  Strong organizational and time management skills to assist with site coordination.   

  Problem-solving and other crisis intervention techniques.   

  Computer software including Microsoft Word and tax return online system.  

  Ability to:

  Obtain Advance Level and Site Coordinator certification through the IRS.  

  Relate positively and effectively with people of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.  

  To work with little supervision as well as demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.   

  Utilize computers and other technology for recordkeeping and consistently demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness, and neatness.  

  Work in a fast-paced setting.   

  EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION

  High school diploma or equivalent (additional education and/or trainings a plus)

  Bilingual (English / Spanish) speaking, reading, and writing required

  Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAAC’s insurance carrier. 

  Available to work evenings and weekends as needed throughout the tax season.

  HEALTH STATUS

  Must have a physical examination, TB clearance and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC as well as immunization records for influenza*, pertussis and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.

  PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

  Physical Demands

  While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit, talk or hear both in person and by telephone, uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms. An employee also is regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, climb or balance and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

  Mental Demands

  While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret information; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; use basic math; learn and apply new information or skills; work under intensive deadlines and interact with MAAC management, administrators, staff, teachers, parents, family members, children and others encountered in the course of work.

  BACKGROUND CLEARANCE

  All positions are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.

  Note: California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to the first day of employment.

  TRANSPORTATION

  Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAAC’s insurance carrier. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
