VCA Cordova Veterinary Dentistry Cente r is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our Dentistry and Oral Surgery team. Our hospital is open Monday through Friday 8am-6pm.
While experience is strongly preferred, we work hard to get new staff up to speed quickly and to teach new skills at every opportunity. The successful candidate will possess a strong passion for animal health, a willingness to learn and grow, and above all, be a strong team player that contributes in every way possible.
In this position, you will be supporting our Doctor and Technician team by creating a positive, low-stress atmosphere for our clients and dental patients. Duties will include:
Restrain all types of animals, sizes and temperaments for procedures, inductions and appointments
Prepares, decontaminates and cleans dental suite and operating rooms
Cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments and wrapping packs
Assist with dental exams, physical exams, sample collection and venipuncture
Provides post-op care and monitoring of patients, filling prescriptions
Assist technicians and doctors in the dental suite with dental radiography, surgical prep, dental prophylaxis, and dental charting.
Helping clients through the entire process of their pet's care. This includes creating estimates, admitting patients for surgery, answering questions pre and post op, discharging patients with aftercare instructions, and dental client education.
General nursing care including baseline knowledge of anesthesia.
Maintenance of equipment used in the dental Service

Qualifications:
Experience working in a veterinary setting preferred
Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
