Vanguard’s Financial Advisor Services division is looking for a highly motivated UX professional to direct the user experience strategy of digital products for our operations teams and the clients they serve.

The candidate will lead UX strategy and grow the design discovery process for a suite of new, business- critical applications as part of a broader technology modernization effort. This individual contributor role is a great opportunity for directing UX strategy and visioning in agile and lean product design environments.

We are passionate about setting a new standard for digital experiences and are looking for like-minded individuals. Join a team of self-starters who are tenacious and relentlessly curious. We exist to lead Vanguard into the future.

  In this role you will:

Define complex problems by applying qualitative and quantitative research, conceptualization, information architecture, and interaction design principles to execution.

Establish an experience vision for digital products within the product family.

Work through a design discovery process to visually model key capabilities for product teams to bring into their backlogs.

Assist product manager and product owners in the creation of roadmaps that includes prioritization schema and a proposed schedule for introducing new features and capabilities.

Use a variety of qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques to continually improve the user experience. Analyze data and client feedback to make critical design decisions.

Enumerate the user experience features of competitors’ products that represent a threat to sustainable competitive advantage. Stay up to date on the latest technology, products, and features available in the industry.

Utilize human centered design methods to plan, facilitate, and synthesize outcomes from design thinking workshops.

Employ narrative storytelling techniques in developing materials for presentation to stakeholders and leadership.

Design and maintain user-centered, empathy-driven design artifacts (personas, archetypes, mindsets) based on user research, that are detailed and specific enough to guide design decisions.

Develop and leverage a professional network to foster collaboration across the enterprise, to support company-wide initiatives, and to improve the ability of the department in resolving issues.

Mentoring and developing junior UX strategists as needed

Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

  What it takes:

An undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience in a creative or technical field. Graduate degree preferred.

  Minimum five years industry/field experience.

Expertise in all areas of user experience design (information architecture, interaction design, visual design, user research, design thinking).

A high degree of creativity, empathy, passion, and problem-solving ability.

In-depth knowledge of qualitative user research, competitive benchmarking, and quantitative user testing methods.

Expertise in product design methodologies, including double- or triple-diamond and lean UX.

Proven experience solving complex communication problems and designing world-class experiences for large-scale programs.

Expert communication skills (storytelling, visualization) and the ability to get buy-in on those ideas within a large organization.

Proven experience in using data (both quantitative and qualitative) analysis techniques to inform design.

  Embody a continuous learning mindset.

The candidate will report up through a larger user experience group in our Financial Advisor Services (FAS) Marketing department (https://marketing.vanguard.com/) . Here, the candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with other UX teams within Marketing as well as teams throughout Vanguard’s global design community of practice.
