  Job Description: The UA student learner program is designed to allow students to experience a “hands-on” approach to learning various facets of the organization. The student will have exposure to metal fabrication concepts and processes. This program is intended for students interested in pursuing a career in welding.

  Hours/Shift: Flexible during 1st shift hours of 4am-2pm; Monday thru Friday

  Compensation: $16.00 per hour

  Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  Applicable to all areas of production shop

  Can follow written and verbal directions to complete assignments or jobs

  Can compute decimal equivalents and interchange fractions

  Actively participate in efforts to establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment

  Follow all UA policies and procedures

  Act professionally and cooperate with other in a team setting

  Other duties may be assigned

  Fabrication Areas

  Must be able to set up and run in one of the fabrication work areas

  Understands how to manage daily work expectations and goals

  Understands, interprets, and follows foreman’s report including priorities and start dates

  Understands how to read material sheet tags and determines material types and gauges

  Understands cross check concepts and inspects product according to Inspection Control Plan

  Follows all safety policies and standards

  Understands non-conforming process according to SOP-0003

  Maintains accurate and timely system transactions

  Can inspect and clean equipment including all preventative maintenanc e

  Welding Areas

  Welds product using fixturing (if applicable) with minimal supervision

  Utilizes hand tools, fixtures, and clamps for small welding applications

  Can interpret basic elements of a blueprint, including welding symbols

  Can identify types of joints and welds

  Can meet UA weld aesthetic standards per customer specifications

  Can set up and maintain welding machines including changing wire and monitoring gases

  Can monitor and maintain welding consumable and supply stock

  Understands cross check concepts and inspects product according to Inspection Control Plan

  Accurately tags material and product according to WI-0002 Product Identification

  Understands non-conforming process according to SOP-003

  Can maintain a high degree of quality, must not have excessive scrap

  Understands and can use basic math principles including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

  Accurately and efficiently perform all required PM on equipment

  Able to successfully weld 1st articles and PPAPs

  Can make minor repairs to equipment and support equipment

  Inspects own work for quality standards

  Paint

  Load, wash, mask, and unload product during daily operation of the paint line

  Will assist the setup personnel as directed for overall set up and changeover of the paint line

  Inspects products regularly during production runs and informs set up technician of quality problems

  Ability to package finished parts and prep for shipment

  Assembly Area

  Understands cross check concepts and inspects product according to Inspections Control Plan

  Accurately tags material and product according to product specifications

  Can identify hardware components used in assemblies

  Can compute decimal equivalents and interchange fractions

  Can accurately count and record production activity including picking, transfers, etc.

  Can follow written and verbal directions to complete assignments or jobs

  Shipping Area

  Ability to interpret and systematically prepare packing slips, bills of lading and other shipping related documentation prior to shipping any product

  Follow proper packaging methods and reference United Alloy’s Master Document system for formal instructions

  Assists with raw material inventory control and accuracy: including sheet stock, hardware, and other components

  Qualifications:

  High School Junior or Senior in “good standing” that is 16-18 years of age; Must be willing to provide transcripts and faculty/personal recommendations upon request.

  Must have reliable transportation to work

  Success completion of technical education courses and/or current enrollment in technical education courses

  Ability to follow instructions both written and verbal

  Basic computer skills

  Must possess the ability to utilize tape measure, caliper, basic hand tools and air tools

  Work Environment: Ability to perform in a manufacturing environment that may have high noise levels, dust, chemicals, oil, and grease. Ability to work in an environment that may be either hot, cold or humid.
