General Purpose:The Director Transportation is a critical role to ensure professional,safe, and efficient milk hauling services. Effectively manage transportationoperations and performance while optimizing costs and maintaining compliancewith regulations and quality standards. Lead the operations with a continuousimprovement mindset, recognizing and implementing initiatives that driveimprovements within the business. Responsible for all aspects of distributionlogistics involved with raw milk order, collection, and delivery process.Oversee all fleet purchasing, fleet maintenance programs, and internaltruck garage operations.Job Duties and Responsibilities:Operations:Directly report to and work in close collaboration with the Sr. DirectorOperations & Transportation in the Mountain Area to deliver the goals andobjectives of the transportation function.Lead and oversee all transportation related operations, includingdistribution logistics involved with raw milk order, collection, anddelivery process in assigned area to deliver high quality service tofarmer-owners and customers.Create and manage operational budget to ensure safe, professional, andefficient milk hauling services are provided to farmer-owners.Oversee work activities of assigned transportation department to providehauling services to DFA farmer-owners and customers.Prepare and provide hauling service performance metrics, financialanalyses, route/delivery maps, and other related transportation data tofacilitate effective decision-making and strategic planning.Evaluate and prepare cost justification for capital expenditures on equipmentand facilities to ensure adequate resources are available to meet farmer-ownerand customer needs.P&L responsibility, including forecasting and reporting.Team Leadership:Lead a team of transportation professionals with the capabilities to create adeliver a safe and well-equipped driver network providing high level oftransportation services to farmer-owners and customers. Foster a positive andcollaborative work environment.Foster a safety mindset and culture.Implement practices to address driver safety training. Conduct accidentinvestigations to determine root causes. Ensure routine safety inspections areperformed.Continuous improvement in workplace driver safety and metrics to remove riskson safe work environment.Remain current on transportation industry developments and requirements.Provide strategic and operational solutions to meet current and futuredemands.Fleet Management:Oversee maintenance program that maximizes equipment life cycle and provides asafe and dependable fleet of equipment.Compliance and Regulations:Ensure all DFA quality, safety, and good manufacturing practices (GMP)policies and procedures are adhered to.Stay abreast of transportation regulations and ensure compliance with local,state, and federal laws.Ensure transportation operations comply with applicable environmental,health, safety, and regulatory regulations. Oversee regulatorycompliance, including Department of Transportation (DOT), OccupationalHealth and Safety Act (OHSA) and Environmental Protection Agency(EPA), including all necessary licensing, permitting, reporting,and training at state and federal level. This would include coordinating withand providing to the appropriate DFA compliance department all necessaryinformFarmer-Owner and Customer Relations:Ensure Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO) compliance as it applies to milkhauling and on farm storage is current and complete as required.Serve as hauling services coordination point related to membership andmarketing. Improve communication with leadership and staff on hauling-relatedmatters.Provide oversight in all areas of contract hauling service, includingfarmer-owner and customer service satisfaction, route re-alignments and ratenegotiations.Continuous Improvement:Moni or and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of daily routingactivities to ensure all established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) aremet.Assist in the development and ongoing evaluation of key performanceindicators, providing a basis for measuring continuous improvement in allareas of transportation, including hauling efficiencies, regulatory andsafety compliance, human resources, as well as farmer-owner and customersatisfaction.Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance transportationprocesses, reduce transit times, and increase overall efficiency.Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and improve theperformance of raw milk hauling operations.Strategic Planning & Insights:Working with the marketing department, maintain cooperative workingrelationships with other DFA areas to capitalize on organizationalcapabilities and inter-area milk marketing opportunities.Represent DFA regarding transportation-related matters with federal and stateregulatory agencies and legislators as well as state and local tradeorganizations such as American Trucking Association (ATA).Maintain current knowledge of transportation field technological andmanagement systems innovations, evaluate their applicability to fluid milktransportation, and seek to implement those with greatest potential benefit.The requirements herein are intended to describe the general nature and levelof work performed by employee; but is not a complete list ofresponsibilities, duties and skills required.
