　　Shell Namibia venture is part of the company’s global venture portfolio, supported by the Shell’s global integrated natural teams who are responsible for the technical maturation of exploration opportunities in Africa, including Namibia. Predominant focus in Namibia is currently on deepwater opportunities within PEL (Petroleum Exploration License) 0039 license area. As a trainee geoscientist, you will be exposed to both venture execution activities (prospect maturation, seismic survey acquisition, well planning and execution, appraisal planning) as well as regional study work in the Orange Basin where we operate.

　　What is the role?

　　This is a full-time job offering and as a Trainee Geoscientist you will be supporting the subsurface content and quality of several defined projects/studies. Usually working as part of an integrated natural team, your role may include document and data management/QC, regional studies/stratigraphic evaluation, play-based evaluation, seismic interpretation, opportunity evaluation, prospect maturation, risk, and volumetric assessment, well maturation and operation and after-action reviews.

　　Key accountabilities include:

　　Support subsurface evaluation workflows (2D/3D seismic interpretation, prospect risking and volumetric, post well-analysis etc.)

　　Support the PEL 0039 drilling and seismic operations/activities both remotely, in-country and offshore throughout the campaigns as needed.

　　Support with generating quality summary presentations for reviews and stakeholder engagements. Write evaluation reports and contribute to well proposals.

　　Work collaboratively in a natural team with multiple disciplines from other teams.

　　Fully document all work products and manage data in conformance with the Shell procedures.

　　Support compliance with the Petroleum Legislations such as Petroleum Act, Petroleum Regulation, Joint Operating Agreement, and other Agreements.

　　Support office safety initiatives and ensure compliance with HSSE (Health Safety Security and Environment) standards.

　　Build, maintain, and consolidate internal and external stakeholder network, including technical and non-technical disciplines, peer reviews and other related activities.

　　Proactively build your professional knowledge, and share knowledge, learnings and best practices with colleagues and the wider subsurface community.

　　Successfully complete Shell’s mandatory technical trainings (SGP (Shell Graduate Program) and SATP (Shell Advanced Technical Programme) as part of professional development.

　　Skills and requirements:

　　This is a junior role requiring minimal skills/experience and proficiency, however; a strong academic background in petroleum geology and/or geophysics or related is required. The interested candidate must meet the following:

　　Be a Namibian national.

　　Have an advanced university degree in Petroleum Geoscience or related (MSc. or higher) from any local and/or internationally recognised educational institution.

　　Have a good understanding/knowledge of the Namibia offshore petroleum geology and deepwater clastic systems.

　　Have a good understanding of the Namibian petroleum upstream sector.

　　English proficiency, with ability to clearly communicate geological issues to other team members and stakeholders.

　　Ability to develop and maintain collaborative and inclusive working relationships based on mutual respect, i.e., a good team player with well-developed interpersonal, who enjoys working in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.

　　Be flexible to work offshore and extended hours including weekends and evenings.

　　Highest standards of integrity and professionalism.

　　Have a good technical/analytical skill and the ability to integrate complex datasets.

　　Basic knowledge in working with Exploration software.

　　Demonstration of drive, enthusiasm, and can-do attitude, with an open and learner mindset and a desire to develop skills as well as learning from successes and failures.

　　Shell’s Upstream business entered Namibia in 2014, exploring for oil and gas offshore. After three seismic surveys, Shell – along with its Joint Venture partners – has drilled seven exploration and appraisal wells and is currently planning further exploration and appraisal activity. Shell has a small office in Windhoek which oversees its business in Namibia. This activity is separate from the Shell-branded retail sites in country, which are managed by Vivo Energy under a brand license agreement.
