  Job ID356385 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyEducation-General Full/Part TimePart-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8494 Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job Theatre Arts and Dance Musician The University of Minnesota, Department of Theatre Arts and Dance, has an occasional need for part-time, temporary theatre arts or dance musicians to provide live music accompaniment to day or evening classes. This does not constitute a posting for vacancies, but establishes a pool of applicants should openings occur during the 2023-2024 academic year. Applications will not be acknowledged upon receipt. Applicants will only be contacted should an active opening occur during the academic year. Positions may be appointed any time during the 2023-2024 academic year: 08/28/2023 - 05/26/2024 or summer 2024. Job Duties: Accompany classes, performances, and/or auditions through improvisation and/or reading music by sight. Qualifications Required Qualifications HS Graduate/GED. Must be able to play a variety of music with a broad stylistic range and improvisatory flexibility. Piano and/or percussion are the traditional instruments for dance accompaniment, but any instrumentalist who meets the qualifications will be considered. For theatre accompaniment, must be able to read and play relatively difficult music by sight. Must be reliable and able to meet class, rehearsal, and performance schedules. Must be able to accompany in a wide range of sites for theatre and/or dance classes, as well as performances. Preferred Qualifications Experience accompanying dance and/or theatre classes and performances with a wide range of styles. Strong improvising skills and broad rhythmic and metric range. Ability to read music.
