The person in this position is responsible for managing the museum's retail operations. Job Duties: Purchasing and inventory control: (45%) * Determine, select, purchase and price merchandise that supports museum themes and exhibitions. In addition, identify and purchase products that are appropriate and perform well in the environment, to drive sales and achieve yearly goals. * Implement and oversee year-end inventory. Supervision: (30%) * Hire, train, and directly oversee functions performed by museum shop staff * Monitor and recruit new student staff when necessary. * Oversee store operations and merchandising functions of the museum shop. * Monitor museum shop budget. Marketing: (10%) * Seek ways to promote the museum shop and its products through valuation and execution of, special sales, promotions, incentives, featured local artists, and low cost advertising. * Collaborate with Museum's communication team to execute/implement consistent and timely newsletter, online social marketing presence and campaigns to increase awareness and traffic to the shop and museum. Systems: (10%) * Implement and train staff on WAM Shop POS systems. * Work with vendor to customize reports and keep software up to date. * Maintain software and evaluate reports to evaluate product performance and inform buying/inventory decisions. Product Development: (5%) * Coordinate development of products for Weisman Art Museum, (i.e. paper goods, branded merchandise) balancing both curatorial and marketing objectives, evaluating per unit costs, mark-up and most economical runs. Work with curatorial team on WAM publication decisions, as related to shop sales. WORK MODE: 100% on site. Qualifications Essential Qualifications and Selection Criteria * Bachelor's degree in business administration or a combination of education and relevant experience to total four years. * Previous experience managing a retail store and prior experience with purchasing and inventory control. * Supervisory experience Preferred Qualifications * Previous experience in Marketing * Knowledge of museum programming/exhibition for product development About the Department Since its origin in 1934, Weisman Art Museum has been a campus museum for the University of Minnesota.
