As a leader in STEM education, from research in faculty labs to co-op positions with the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania to a study abroad on Bioko Island, our undergraduates have the opportunity to explore real-life career options before graduation.Part-time or Full-time temporary position (3-6 month) as instructor for a large teaching program in the Department of Biology at Drexel University. Position will directly staff undergraduate teaching laboratories and recitations to instruct undergraduate students in a number of introductory courses. This involves working with teaching faculty and staff laboratory technicians to assist with development of lab protocols and educational materials. The instructor will employ a variety of strategies to enhance student learning in biology. Instructors will encourage active learning in all students, maintain proper course-related records, and evaluate student work and provide feedback. Each Instructor is responsible for effectively teaching students in the assigned classroom and/or laboratory settings. Each instructor is responsible for effectively implementing the mission of the Department of Biology. Responsibilities may include teaching days or evenings, with the potential for online, in-person, or a combination of both. This position reports directly to the Assistant Department Head. Perform other similar duties as assigned.Essential FunctionsDeliver and assist in the teaching of undergraduate biology laboratory or recitation sections.Responsible for direct supervision of undergraduate students during the labs and/or recitations.Schedule at least two office hours per week to provide academic services for student success in achieving course objectives/outcomes.Schedule administrative time for classroom and laboratory preparation.Evaluate student achievement of course objectives/outcomes, maintain proper course-related records, and provide students with feedback as to their progress toward meeting the objectives of the course.Work with teaching faculty and other staff for development of lab protocols and educational materials.For lab instructors, duties include preparation of reagents and materials for the lab and help overseeing lab safety and clean-up of teaching labs.Maintain communication with the Asst. Dept.
