The selected candidate will be a member of the Mechanical/Coatings Section in the Air Permits Division. These two teams review air quality applications for a variety of industrial sources such as, iron and steel industry, surface coating, fiber reinforced plastics, printing presses, semiconductors, and many others.WHAT YOU WILL DOThis position is for a member of the Mechanical/Coatings Section in the Air Permits Division.You would use your skills and experience to:Review air permit applications for proposed new and modified construction of facilities that may emit air pollutants for the Air Permits Division (APD) of the TCEQ.Evaluate routine air permit applications (i.e., projects), ensuring high quality work and completing the required quantity of projects within established timeframes. Conduct a comprehensive technical review for projects to include defining all sources of contaminants, applying appropriate federal and state requirements, reviewing emission calculations, drafting permit documents, and completing technical review summaries. Prepare public notice authorizations and completes associated tasks.Provide quality customer service to applicants, agency staff, other state/federal agencies, elected officials, stakeholders, and the general public concerning the applicability of federal and state requirements for the permitting process and the technical completeness of projects.Attend and assist in technical training activities concerning major and minor permit review. Participate in division, section, and team meetings.Assist in the development and maintenance of technical guidance packages and policy memos, assists in the coordination of streamlining activities, and represents the division and agency at meetings, training sessions, presentations, etc.Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSA bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, physical science, environmental science, or a related field.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree, with a major in engineering from an accredited college or university.TRAININGThe Air Permits Division provides training for new employees which includes our Air Permitting 101 interactive training modules for staff that provides an overview of the division and responsibilities. In addition, a more comprehensive New Source Review (NSR) 101 training is conducted by senior technical staff explaining the technical review process an air permit application. In addition, one on-one training is conducted by a mentor or supervisor.TRANSCRIPTS / COLLEGE HOURS OR COURSE WORKSee instructions on how to attach documents. A copy of your official college transcript or evaluation of foreign credentials in CAPPS is required if ne ded to meet the minimum qualification requirements outlined above.CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEESThis position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Engineering Specialist I state classification.
