The HIM Manager is an AMHS role responsible for managing, organizing, and coordinating the daily functions and staffing needs of the HIM operations area to include prepping, scanning, quality control, analysis and deficiency management, record completion, and physician suspension management. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and security of patient health records, while maintaining compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards for AMHS.
Salary Range: $80,151.00 - $132,249.00
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Evaluates workflow on a continual basis and makes adjustments to staffing patterns to meet the demands of changing volumes to efficiently run all areas of responsibility within the department guidelines.
Maintains established productivity and quality standards, turnaround times and manages through any backlog.
Manages the physician suspension process to ensure timely completion of medical records and works closely with the Chief Medical Officer for enforcement.
Support the medical staff and other health care providers in documentation requirements and timely medical record completion.
Ensures documentation in the Legal Medical Record is completed in a timely manner as defined by system, state and federal requirements and applies the AMHS suspension policy as appropriate.
Research deficiencies declined by providers to determine correct deficiency assignment.
Develops staff onboarding and training for new hires; and focuses on regular education for staff; including confidentiality, compliance release of information, safety and any other regulatory or industry changes.
Constantly strives to support and encourage departmental and unit efforts to improve customer service.
Conducts daily huddles to ensure team engagement and to provide daily updates and workflow direction.
Assures appropriate cross training activities among various functions/task.
Recruits, retains, trains, orients and develops staff.
Prepares annual competency assessments for all staff, provides feedback to staff on an ongoing basis.
Develops and maintains policies and procedures and ensures standardization of processes for AMHS. Interprets departmental and hospital policies to staff and customers
Establishes and regularly monitor key performance indicators to optimize outcomes. Continually streamlining processes for efficiency using Lean methodologies.
Assist with the budget for areas of responsibility, monitoring variances and implementing corrective action as needed.
Remain current with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to health information management, including HIPAA and Meaningful Use requirements.
Ensure compliance and provide guidance to staff regarding privacy, security, and confidentiality of health information.
Monitors use of equipment and ensures that proper training, maintenance and repairs is performed as needed
Qualifications:
Associate's Degree Health Information Management or related field and 5 years of experience in a HIM operations leadership role will be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree. - required
Bachelor's Degree Health Information Management or related field - preferred
4-6 years Experience working in a health Information management department, preferably in the operations area. - required
1-3 years Supervisory Experience - required
Excellent communication and organizational skills. (High proficiency)
Knowledge of prep/scan and quality control (High proficiency)
Skilled in using electronic health records and various other applications. (High proficiency)
Demonstrates excellent customer service with the ability to handle complex, demanding situations involving customers. (High proficiency)

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. (High proficiency)
RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator Upon Hire - preferred
RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician Upon Hire - preferred
