JOB REQUIREMENTS: Responsibilities Responsibilities Works under thedirection of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct ofinvasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating roomenvironment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that theoperative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patientsafety. Possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile andaseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgicalprocedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate aphysician\'s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnosticprocedures. May include day, evening, night, weekend, holiday, and/oron-call hours. Report-back time for on-call per department guidelines.Performs other duties as assigned. Essential Functions Handles theinstruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgicalprocedure. Has an understanding of the procedure being performed andanticipates the needs of the surgeon. Has the necessary knowledge andability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedureand is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Assiststhe surgical team before, during, and after surgery by performing thefollowing duties: Checks instruments, supplies, and equipment needed forsurgical procedures. Scrubs, gowns, gloves, and sets up sterile tablewith instruments and supplies, equipment and medications/solutionsneeded for each procedure a Assists with patient placement andpositioning on the table. Assists in draping sterile field according toprocedure/physician preference. Performs appropriate counts for sponges,needles, and instruments with circulator according to policy prior tothe operation and before incision is closed. Gowns and gloves surgeonand assistants. Creates and maintains sterile field. Maintains higheststandard of sterile technique during procedure. Passes instruments, etc.to surgeon during procedure. May sponge operative site, hold retractorsduring surgery, cut suture and cauterize previously clamped vessels asdirected by surgeon. Prepares sterile dressings. Assists other membersof team with cleaning the operating room after each procedure. Assistsin prepping room for the next patient. Participates in departmentperformance improvement activities.
