Job Description:Surgical Technologists perform various duties as a member ofthe surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. Thisposition functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directlyreports to Surgical Services management. It is expected that the ORT III willsupport system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices. Inaddition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operationssafety plan as outlined.

Scope
1.Assists in nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Assembles,organizes and completes case carts according to doctors preference lists.2. Provides appropriate instrumentation, suture and all supplies asrequested and provides and maintains a sterile environment. May assist surgeonby passing instruments to surgeon during cases.3. Counts sponges, needles, blades and instruments using proper techniqueand established policy.4. Assists in maintenance and care of specimens and prepares for laboratoryanalysis. Handles specimens, implants, dressings, soiled instruments,contaminated materials and sharps in accordance with established policy andrecommended standards of practice5. Assists with timely turnover of rooms, including clean up, replacementand restocking of supplies and equipment. Cares for instruments and equipment.6. Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides byservice behavior standards.7. Performs other duties as assigned.8. May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competencyand qualifications) based on business need.9. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
Minimum Qualifications
RequiredHigh school diploma or GED is requiredCurrent American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers(BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire withprior approvalGraduation from formal, accredited surgical technologist program is requiredRegistered in state of practice as a Surgical Technologist is required
Preferred1 year of OR scrubbing experience is preferred1year of clinical experience in an accredited hospital is preferred
