Who will you be working with?
Vapor Stone Rail Systems is a part of WABTEC Corp and has been in Plattsburgh NY since 1998. We offer a wide range of products and services for trains including HVAC units, Doors, Door systems along with an array of aftermarket parts and services.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the team at Vapor Stone Rail Systems, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of production assemblers. Must be safety conscious.
Achieves production results by communicating job expectations; planning, assigning personnel, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and holding team members accountable for results
Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; developing personal growth opportunities for team members
Works daily with other Supervisors/Production Manager to build a flexible site wide production team that can be utilized in other production areas as workload requires
Initiates and fosters a cooperative work environment within and between departments.
Accountable to understand and follow processes for inventory accuracy in their area as well as ensuring all warehouse procedures for inventory control are followed by their team.
Ensure departmental maintenance requirements are met
Ensures their department adheres to Safety, 5S, Quality and Efficiency goals
Coordinate safety training with Safety, Methods and HR teams
Working knowledge of continuous improvement and Lean practices; 5S, TPM, SMED, Kaizen
Must be a team player and solution provider
Ensure coverage with other Supervisors on both normal and overtime production hours
Demonstrates Safety Leadership at all times
Strong knowledge of Manufacturing processes and techniques
Solid knowledge of production scheduling and all shop operations
Attention to detail and accuracy a must
Working knowledge of continuous improvement practices; 5S, SMED, VSM
Advanced mechanical aptitude
Troubleshooting ability
Safety Leadership.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified candidates should have knowledge of mechanical/ electrical assembly techniques. Ability to align resources and functions, team player, commitment, collaborative, ability to anticipate/prevent problem, solution provider
COMPETENCIES/ABILITIES
•Possesses strong sense of urgency and a proactive customer service philosophy
• Self-motivated, driven, well organized, and customer focused
• Works with other Supervisors/Managers to remove roadblocks that prevents the production team from succeeding
•Strong electrical and mechanical equipment design knowledge
•Computer literate, Microsoft Office, (Outlook, Excel, Word as a minimum).
•Experience in the Rail Industry a plus.
•Qualified candidate must have the ability to respond positively to new challenges and continuous improvements while maintaining current standards.
Must be able to lift over 50lbsEDUCATION:
Equivalent experience/training in Manufacturing will be considered, a Bachelor’s/Associates degree in Engineering, (Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical) is a definite plus
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 5 years in a Supervisory role, relevant Manufacturing experience will be considered. Must have the ability to read blueprints.What will your typical day look like?
Overseeing a team of assemblers. Working closely with production manager to meet goals and targets.What about the physical demands of the job?
Standing, bending, twisting for 8 hours per day
Ability to lift 40lbs.
Wearing PPE including but not limited to hearing protection, hard hat, bump cap cut resistant gloves at various times based on current project.
Safety glasses & steel/composite toe shoes are required for entirety of shift.
Must successfully pass initial and random drug screenings.
May require step stools or ladders.
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is 65k-80k. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location.
