  Description:

  Under direct supervision, the Student Nurse Intern assists in the delivery of holistic, compassionate, individualized, effective quality patient care and customer satisfaction. The Student Nurse Intern will be allowed to participate in the routine care of patients which includes assessment, nursing interventions, treatments, medication administration, nutritional screening, observations, nursing activities, documentation, and patient teaching. This is accomplished by supporting the patient in activities of daily living, as well as other physical, emotional and spiritual needs consistent with the mission of Mercy, Patient care services vision, evidence-based standards of care and established policies and procedures. Work will include components of direct patient care, nutrition, observation, documentation, transportation and general maintenance of the patient environment. Adheres to the principles of Service Excellence Guiding Behaviors and the philosophy and mission of Mercy in all aspects of job performance.

  What you will Do

  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Mercy standards.

  Participate in collaborative practice with an experienced nurse preceptor or mentor and assume shared responsibility for patient assignments. This includes assessment, nursing interventions, treatments, medication administration, nursing activities, documentation, and patient teaching.

  Student Nurse Interns may participate in other patient care activities under the direct supervision of the primary nurse as deemed appropriate.

  Exhibit high standards of ethical conduct, honesty, and integrity at all times.

  Respect age-specific needs of patient populations served.

  Continuously seek out opportunities to improve the quality of patient care though innovative and creative problem solving.

  Have a general knowledge of nursing theory, techniques, and interventions

  Minimum Qualifications

  Active student in good standing in BSN program between junior and senior year during the summer of 2024

  This program requires your participation for the entire 8 weeks, except in emergency or illness situations. Any exceptions or special circumstances must be discussed during the interview process. The internship begins in early June and is completed in August.

  Completed at least one acute care clinical rotation.

  Must be actively enrolled in an independent study course with their accredited college; accredited college must have a clinical affiliation agreement with the respective clinical site.

  Anticipate graduation within one year after completion of the summer internship program.
