The primary purpose of this position is to to provide a student trainee in the Pathways Internship Program with on-the-job training and guidance, using varied functions of multiple office automation software to produce a wide range of documents and to perform miscellaneous clerical support. Responsibilities Uses varied functions of multiple office automation software to produce a wide range of documents, formats, etc. Prepares a wide variety of recurring correspondence, internal reports, and other documents from information obtained from the staff, files, and other sources and reviews and finalizes documents prepared by others. Reviews and processes incoming and outgoing correspondence, materials, publications, regulations, and directives. Receives and directs telephone calls or visitors. Ascertains the nature of the call or visit and provides complete and clear information that addresses most routine or procedural issues. Establishes, updates, and maintains office records of various types that may be needed or will assist in the efficient operations of the office. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications PLEASE NOTE: This is not a developmental opportunity; this position may be filled at the GS-04 grade level depending on applicant qualifications and organizational requirements. The individual selected for this position may be considered for promotion to a higher grade without further competition upon meeting all legal and regulatory/program requirements. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education This position has an education requirement. You MUST provide transcripts to support your educational claims. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. http://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html To qualify for a GS-04: Completion of 2 academic years of post high school study or an associate's degree in a related field of study FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information This is a Pathways Student Internship opportunity managed by the Force Renewal Program and centrally funded by the Air Force's Central Salary Account (CSA). The Internship offers valuable work experience directly related to your academic field of study. This is your opportunity to begin a successful Federal civilian career with the United States Air Force. As an Intern, you will be given the opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to pursue a successful career with the US Air Force and upon completing your degree and meeting conversion eligibility requirements, be eligible for placement in a permanent position. However, it is important to remember that eligibility for conversion does not guarantee you will be offered a permanent position. The length of Internship is normally two years or when you complete your academic program and degree requirements. This internship is to provide a learning opportunity for a student enrolled in a field of study relating to their career path, to enhance their future goals and improve their knowledge with work experience in a working environment The entire period served under the Internship Program counts as the participant's trial period. Interns may work part-time or full-time schedules Non-citizens may be eligible for employment if permitted by the DoD Appropriation Act NOTE: U.S. citizenship is required for a noncompetitive conversion to a permanent or term appointment with the Department of the Air Force.
