Summary These positions are in the Office of Air and Radiation, Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards. Responsibilities At the GS-05 level, you will: Perform a variety of routine support tasks in the area of applications development and maintenance; Prepare responses to project inquiries and provide data, general funding information, and other project related materials to various work groups; Perform routine portions of coding projects that involve conditions and elements that must be identified and analyzed to discern interrelationships; Assist senior staff with routine aspects of information management work. At the GS-07 level, you will: Provide support to higher-graded IT Specialists in the area of application software, programming, analysis, and problem resolution; Learn and provide maintenance for existing software systems; Research application software security information, policies, principles, and practices; Assist with IT systems projects and activities in support of the program staff. You must be age 16 or older. If you are selected, a written participant agreement must be signed. This position is designated as Low risk if selected for GS-05 level and Moderate risk if selected for the GS-07 level and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation. All conditions of the pre-employment security process must be met before an official letter of employment can be issued with a report for duty date. You must have and maintain good academic standing as defined by your academic institution (typically a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0). If you are selected, the entire period served under the Internship Program will be a trial period. You must be enrolled at least half-time and maintain at least a half-time course load as defined by your academic institution (typically 6 undergraduate credit hours or 4.5 graduate credit hours per semester). #LI-DNI Qualifications If you are applying for a grade level higher than your current grade, you must have education and experience as described below to qualify for this position: To qualify for the GS-5 level, you must meet one of the following requirements: completion of three academic years of study leading to a bachelor’s degree and one period of Intern trainee work experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level; OR completion of two and a half academic years of study leading to a bachelor’s degree and six months (at least 960 hours) of Intern work experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level. NOTE: One period of Intern work experience is the equivalent of two months (320 hours). To qualify for the GS-7 level, you must meet one of the following requirements: completion of all requirements for a bachelor’s degree and completion of one period of Intern work experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level; OR completion of four academic years of pre-professional study and completion of one period of Intern work experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level. *Pre-professional study is academic study, credentialing, or training beyond the post-baccalaureate level that prepares an individual to practice a specific profession (e.g., Juris Doctor, Master of Science in Social Work, or Doctor of Pharmacy). NOTE: One period of Intern work experience is the equivalent of two months (320 hours). Education Additional Information If you are graduating from your present course of study at the end of the current semester/quarter: You may be hired prior to graduation; however, to continue in this program after graduation, you must be continuing your education next semester/quarter and be accepted for enrollment seeking a diploma, certificate, bachelor’s degree, graduate degree, or professional degree from a qualifying educational institution on a full- or half-time basis.
