Scope
1.As a SPD subject matter expert, will lead SPD projects, troubleshootsissues, developsprocedures and assists in the implementation of bestpractices in the improvement of SPD practices and procedures.2. May act as an educator for the department to provide on the job (OJT)to new associates.3. Implements best practices established by SCL Health in agreement with TheAssociation for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), TheAssociation of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and manufacturesrecommendations for the care and handling of surgical instrumentation indefining policies and processes for Sterile Processing.4. May act as a liaison with other departments and within a multi-disciplinework team.5. Operates and monitors sterilization equipment.6. Prioritizes daily tasked based on interpretation of surgical schedule,determining the requirement for instruments for each surgical case.7. Disassembles carts and follows Universal Precautions for decontamination.8. Sterilizes, disinfects durable medical equipment and instruments,packages clean supplies and instruments, maintains records for allinstruments and transports sterilized items to the floor.9. Assembles sterilized instruments and rechecks all instruments forcleanliness and/or impairment. Properly checks power equipment.10. Takes measures to allow for easy instrument tracking including followinglabeling processes, use of engraver or instrument identifying markingtools, reporting and documenting all missing instruments and implantsreplaced in trays.11. Communicates the equipment and instrument inventory status with theCentral Processing staff and Surgery Charge Nurse including order status,back orders and/or changes.12. Responds to emergency situations by insuring all emergency, trauma andadd-on cases are supplied properly and delivered to the Operating Room in atimely manner.13. Utilizes applications and technology to accurately facilitate recordkeeping in accordance with State and Federal regulations.14. Provides on the job training on the job training (OJT) to newly hiredassociates in the department.15. Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides byservice behavior standards.16. Performs other duties as assigned.17. May be required to work overtime based on business need.18. May be required to float to other departments (within scope ofcompetency and qualifications) based on business need.19. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
Minimum Qualifications
RequiredHigh School diploma or equivalentNone3 - 5+ years of experience in Sterile Processing
Preferred
Certified Registered Central Supply Technician (CRCST) or CertifiedSterile ProcessingDepartment Technician (CSPDT), or Certified SurgicalTechnician (CST)2+ years of experience in a hospital or clinic operating room

Experience and understanding in the use of computers,as well as the ability to learn software relevant to Sterile Processing.Ability to successfully function in a fast-paced, service orientedenvironment. Ability to work nights and/or weekends.
