This position exists to update and coordinate implementation of the MN Wildlife Action Plan, a statewide plan to collaboratively maintain and enhance wildlife populations and habitat. The Plan focuses on identifying threats to and conservation actions for Species in Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN) and their associated habitats. The Plan is a 10-year conservation blueprint, implemented through partnerships using tools such as the Wildlife Action Network, Conservation Focus Areas and dynamic funding resources to accomplish conservation goals. Responsibilities include planning, recommendations for priorities and expenditure of federal and matching state dollars, accomplishment tracking and reporting, and communication with partners and members of the public.
This position requires occasional day-long and overnight travel for meetings and events both in state and out of state. This position may be eligible to telework on a full or part-time basis which is subject to change. If approved, the employee would be required to complete a telework agreement.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, biology, ecology, zoology, entomology or closely related field.
Three years of professional experience focused on wildlife surveying and monitoring.
Experience with data management and analysis.
Ability to produce understandable graphics, reports and conservation workplans.
Knowledge of Minnesota’s wildlife and habitats including Species in Greatest Conservation Need.
Excellent writing and communication skills sufficient to translate scientific findings and technical information for a variety of audiences.
Proficiency using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), compass, and maps sufficient to navigate in the field for data collection.
Human relations skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others.
Demonstrated experience leading others through facilitation, conflict resolution, and collaborative decision-making strategies.
Project management skills sufficient to plan, coordinate, and evaluate complex programs or projects.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in natural resources, biology, ecology, zoology, entomology or closely related field.
Knowledge of Federal Assistance programs (State Wildlife Grants, Endangered Species, Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration) and enacted Federal Assistance rules, regulations and guidelines.
Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups including state, county, local, tribal, and federal agency staff and programs.
Experience writing grant proposals.
Experience in receiving and administering grants.
Additional Requirements
This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s license with a clear driving record.
