Summary The incumbent of the position serves as a Staff Assistant to senior level officials in the Office of the Secretary of Transportation (OST). The incumbent is also part of an executive support team responsible for providing administrative support. As such, the incumbent is responsible for performing special projects which cover a range of management issues that result in providing the senior executive staff pertinent analysis and information that influences management decisions. Responsibilities As a Staff Assistant, you will: Perform special studies of projects or initiatives that have Department-wide impact. Conduct analyses leading to recommendations and implementation of programs. Prepare reports on findings and recommendations. Review issues and requests and make determinations on highly sensitive, complex matters for the senior official’s attention. Act as liaison between senior officials. Participate in meetings and provide information regarding his/her views on DOT programs/issues; answer questions, and arrange implementation of commitments. Prepare justifications to support OST senior official's actions and decisions. Qualifications To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration. To qualify for the Grade 12, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-11 it must include: Experience analyzing, revising, and making recommendations to senior officials on changes to work operations, such as work methods, procedures management controls, and/or other initiatives, as well as experience developing written responses to inquiries from such groups as the general public, special interest, State and local government officials, and/or top-level Federal officials, and coordinating with appropriate program offices to orchestrate the presentation of senior level briefings To qualify for the Grade 13, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-12, it must include: Experience analyzing, revising, and making recommendations to senior officials on changes to work operations, such as work methods, procedures management controls, and/or other initiatives, as well as experience developing written responses to inquiries from such groups as the general public, special interest, State and local government officials, and/or top-level Federal officials, and coordinating with appropriate program offices to orchestrate the presentation of senior level briefings Experience implementing and coordinating special programs and experience creating procedural guidelines and policies for operations and practices.
