Description Are you an experienced accountant with a keen eye for accuracy? Robert Half has an exciting opportunity at a rapidly-growing organization in the Government industry for a Staff Accountant. Set in the New York, New York area, the company offering this long-term contract / temporary to hire opportunity encourages innovation and rewards effort in the work place. In this role, the Staff Accountant is in charge of preparing monthly and year-end closings, journal entries, fixed asset maintenance, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation. A great deal of time in this position will be spent producing Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. During the monthly close, you will be responsible for many aspects of internal reporting. You will also communicate with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, play an active role in compliance, and review schedules for the reporting processes.
Your responsibilities in this role
Prepare monthly balance sheet and income statement analyses for management reporting
Produce complex journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll
Manage capital lease and monthly payment schedules
Participate in various department-wide initiatives
Perform month end close, journal entries with minimum supervision
Help with the implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
Analyze and coordinate a variety of financial data, and report it in a useful and understandable manner
Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as requested
Support fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation
Partake in annual closing processes Requirements - Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision
Strong attention to detail
Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment
Ability to work within spreadsheets and databases
Outstanding organizational, written and verbal communication skills required
Ability to handle multiple projects within strict deadlines
Recent and relevant accounting experience
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis
Proficient with spreadsheets and databases
Financial Edge experience
Foundational knowledge in Coding Invoices
Approved Invoices experience highly desired
Accounts Receivable (AR) experience
Accounts Payable (AP) experience
BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
Experience with ERP systems
