Located in the Garden City, New York region, the organization offering this long-term contract / temporary opportunity provides rewards to those who dedicate extra effort in the work place. As Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for preparing monthly and year-end closings, journal entries, fixed asset maintenance, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation. This position is very involved as it will produce Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. During the monthly close, you will be responsible for many aspects of internal reporting. You'll also be reviewing schedules for the reporting processes, communicating with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and playing an active role in compliance.
Your responsibilities
Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as requested
Report on a wide variety of financial data and communicate it in a useful and understandable manner
Take part in various department-wide initiatives
Ready complex journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll
Be responsible for analysis of income statements and balance sheets and communicate findings to management
Keep up fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation
Help with the implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
Conduct month end close, journal entries, without supervision
Play a role in the month end, quarter end and year end closing process including monthly financial close workbook preparation
Organize capital lease and monthly payment schedules
Requirements
Outstanding organizational, written and verbal communication skills required
Demonstrated ability in exemplary analytical, quantitative and social skills
Recent and relevant accounting experience
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment, to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent
Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to complete multiple tasks and projects within deadlines
BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
Efficient in ERP systems
Competent with spreadsheets and databases
Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases
